Hi,

I was wondering what brand is the Black Shadow speaker in my DC-3? I mean, who produced it? The problem is that the sticker was removed, so I don´t have any info.

I could be wrong, but to me it definitely does not sound as the Vintage 30. I´m saying this, because I´ve heart Mesa used those in their amps.

Any info will be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

The Black Shadow in my DC-5 is a Celestion speaker made for Mesa. I think it might be a 90-watt take on the G12T-75.... but I could be wrong.

The Classic Lead 80 is what the MC-90 is based off.

There you go, I stand corrected.

Thank you for this info, guys!

I have seen pictures of the back of DC-5´s and DC-3´s (having the mine on mind too) and I see there is a small difference: the chassis of the speakers. On the DC-5 it is silver like usual, but on the DC-3´s (incuding mine) the metal chassis is black.
That is why I suppose it is a different speaker...

More opinions?

I used to work there in the late 90s and if I remember correctly, they switched from Celestion to Eminence for the Black Shadow spkrs sometime in the 90s. I could be wrong. They only put V30's in the high-end amps and cabinets.

I have a DC-2 and it has a black shadow Eminence speaker in it, 50W, I think they are also in some DC-3s I have seen.

You used to work at MESA/Boogie?

Every stock DC-3 I've seen had a V-30. As far as I can remember, they have all had Celestion labels and don't have "Mesa black shadow" labels.

I'm running my DC-3 head through a C90 loaded Mesa 3/4 back cab and I think it sounds great. I could probably get more bite if I used a V30, but I'm pretty happy with my tone at the moment...
