Hi,

I have recently bought this amp and as it comes without eq I wonder if putting one in the effect loop will make it work like a DC-3 for example.
Is the the GEQ on the DC-3, DC-5 and DC-10 pre or post gaim stage?

thanks

Marco

I would definitely give it a try.
The GEQ is located directly before the FX Loop on the 3, 5, & 10.
You might want to make sure that the Contour is off though. This is located in exactly the same place as the GEQ in the other circuits and is designed to simulate the 'V' that many people use to get heavier distortion.

You can't hurt anything by trying it.

And to further clarify - the FX loop is after the preamp and before the power amp. :)

I used to use an EQ in the loop of my F-30 combo and it really made it come to life! I didn't really like the contour mode...

I enjoyed very good tone shaping result, with my newly bidded Boss PQ-50 parametric equalizer in the loop (quiet and smooth), before my Studio Caliber DC-2 finally broke down.

A good parametric eq is the way to go. Yup, get one that have adjustable input volume cut/increase function.

I use the boss GE-7 in the loop on my DC-2 and it works great, really improves the whole amp, especially cleans.

Hmm. Seems like this would not work well given the DC has a parallel effects loop? Wouldn't it just mix the EQed and unEQed signal at the power stage? Does that create any issues?

I'm guessing an EQ would work better in a serial loop but if it sounds good do it.

Still works just fine with a parallel. My F-30 combo had a parallel loop - i just ran it wide open. The EQ I had with it really made that amp come alive!

Good point there. In fact I have been thinking about a serial mod done to my DC-2, but the intention to keep my amp "stock" has hold me back, and a parallel loop is good enough for me too..

Anyway, just set the parallel loop to 100%, it should be just fine using the eq.
