Sweet mercy, I have no need of all these footswitchable functions. All I really need are Channels 1, 2, 3, Solo, and Mute.
I'm very handy with an iron and various chassis tools, but have never contemplated something like this before. I'm going to look for some smaller chassis in the range of ~ 10" x 2.2" x 1.6" like below. Reckon I could just get a midi socket and copy the pinout of the one inside the stock fs. Has anyone done this before?

If I move up to a 12" width, I can place buttons 2.5" apart center-to-center, relieving any congestion.
