I'm sure this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything using the search function.

What's a good contact cleaner brand for cleaning the tube sockets? What do you guys use?

Thanks

When I received my order confirmation, I notice they gave me a small tube of Deoxit Gold as well. (free) After I clean my tube sockets I wonder if it wouldn't hurt to put a little Deoxit Gold on the pins of my new tubes as well. ?

The Gold is a less reactive formula. It's primary use is for gold plated connections. The regular deoxit will be a better cleaner for copper and plated steel. Either way you'll be very happy with these products. Let us know what you think...I only clean pots with this stuff and I've never had anyone return anything to me when I've used it.

Thanks for the information. And you're right, from what I've read and understand the original Deoxit is meant for cleaning, and the Deoxit Gold is more of a protector from oxidation.

So my thought is it wouldn't hurt to use a little of the Gold after I clean the sockets with the original formula.

Guitarzan, I got the Deoxit in the mail today. This stuff is great. I really didn't realize how much oxidation built up in just a short amount of time. After a good cleaning the power tubes just slide in very easily.

After cleaning with Deoxit I applied "Deoxit Gold" onto the pins of my new tubes. Time will tell if the Deoxit Gold prevents any oxidation.

Awesome! You should be good to go for a while...Just check everything again in about 6 months. My guess is that you'll still be good.

which is the exact bottle i should buy? There are like 5 of the same and I don't know the differences...

There's, if i recall, d5s, d5n, d5ns...

Which is the correct one for application to the tube sockets?

I'm sure it really doesn't matter but I bought the D5 formula because of it being "slow drying." While you're working an old tube in and out of the sockets it’s logical you don’t want the stuff drying too quickly.

Get the D5. I use the spray with the directing straw.

Yep that's exactly what I got. The straw makes it easy to apply deoxit precisely where you want.
