Hey, I'd like to know how the plate of my dual recto (3ch) is attached? I've been looking at it lately and seeing different possiblities to dress it up for fun. Nothing permanent like painting the plate. I'm wondering if it could easily be dettached and the plate covered in material or just putting some type colored clear material over it or just colored plexi glass ...

Just wondering how it's attached to the casing.

I wanted to paint my diamond plate, but its a HUGE pain in the ass to get off. Its held on by super sticky double back tape, and you have to use a heat gun to melt it enough to pull the plate away. All that without melting the tolex, which is very easy to do.

Im thinking of just ordering another plate from Mesa myself. Please let us know what you end up doing!

Hey man, thanks for the info. I couldn't find any screws, front or back, so I figured it might be glued there. I'll let you know if I try something.

Any idea how much a new plate would cost?

I called Mesa about 6 motnhs ago and they said it would be anywhere from $150-$200 depending on finish. (I wanted a flat black powder coat)....Good luck!!

guys its extremely easy to remove the plate on these. i removed mine about 3 months ago and had the DP done in black.

just use a heat gun on it while lifting up on the lip of the diamond plate. now since im an aircraft engine mechanic i had some heat resistant gloves in my truck that i had on. dont worry about melting the tolex. unless you are blowing the heat gun directly on it, it wont melt that easy. it took about 10-15 minutes to remove it.

Hey aircraft engine mechanic! Im an aviation inspector! Anyways thanks for the info. I just might try it then if thats all it took. Was the double back tape anything special? Or just regular stuff?

it seemed like your basic 3M double sided tape.

oh and are you an FAA certifier or just an inspector. im currently going through the process for my A&P

I think I might chicken out for fear of screwing something up. haha Might try to just get a headshell instead.

And Im just a regular Inspector. Good luck on your A&P!!

i called Mesa a few years ago and got a quote of $240+shipping for a new head shell. ive heard that prices have gone up since then. thats why i did it myself. and i think it turned out great. now im glad i stopped stalling and just did it.

Wow thats exactly what I want to do with mine. That looks fantastic.

And I noticed you changed the jewel color too. Rad!

Did you just rough up the plate with scotch brite and paint? And what kind of paint did you use? (If you remember)

i honestly dont remember what i used. and yeah i picked up a blue jewel light. it looks good but i really want to get a green one real soon.

Yeah I ordered the assorted pack of Jewels off eBay for $10 a few days ago. Thanks for the info duder!
