Very sweet ,warm tone. Cant ever go wrong with a Quad preamp.
Cord definition is clear and not compressed. Leads have great sustain, nice MkIII tones for sure.
Thanks for sharing !

POD

In one forum this guy said it is a pod ,here he says it is a quad ???!!!

djemass,

Sounds like a decent recording. Not much into this kind of style anymore. The lead sounds a touch fizzy to my ears just like the guy on the Petrucci forum said.

If it's the quad 50/50 2X12 setup:
What kind of preamps and microphones did you use for the tone?

If it's the Pod setup:
Direct or did you have a cab going?

Peace

Hi !

Of course I confirm it is a PODXT Live, but I wanted to have objective critics about the tone, if I told you it was a PODXT, everyone should complain it is digital, over fizzy and so on...

I strongly believe this tone is enough good to give the illusion in a mix.

After everyone can hate this tone or not, it is just a matter of tastes.

I actually own a quad+50/50+2x12recto for live use, and this tone is quite close.

cheers

Well honestly I can hear the digital sound in the rhythm section but solo sound is pretty good if you ask me.

personally I don't think the tone is that nice, it sounds very digital, even the solo tone.. it's pretty much your guitar that sounds nice, not the preamp. IMO I think it's just missing that tube characteristic. I find alot of people just throw out comments saying this is great tone and stuff but they are really thinking of the guitar playing rather then the tone, tone is very hard to listen for, you have to try and develop an ear for TONE.... great playing though

Trust me I know a good tone when I hear it. But again, that's subjective. I don't think this solo tone is bad at all. Don't forget that everybody will react differently to tone too. I've heard worse sounding Road King tones on this board than the tone in question. Also, thread starter should thank you for what you said here : "I find alot of people just throw out comments saying this is great tone and stuff but they are really thinking of the guitar playing rather then the tone" What else would a guitarist wanna hear?! That's an awesome compliment. Have you ever heard the saying : "Dude you could make a toaster sound good."

To summarize. I like this tone. It's better than what some of us get from tube heads...

Hey, I wasn't trying to pointing you out, sorry if i made it seem that way, and i'm sort of unsure of what you mean by thank me? because it seems to be sarcastc, I think it's true that alot of people say oh that sounds sweet when they are really not listening to the tone but more of the playing. Just becuase it's a boogie doesn't mean you'll get amazing tone out of it right? I mean alot of the tone comes from the persons playing ability aswell, the amount of pick attack they use, how hard they pick, their dynamics etc.. a good guitar player will sound good on any amp but the tone is somethign totally different and I feel that alot of people get that mixed up, example : alot of people say john petrucci has the best tone ever.. well i don't like his modern aged tone, even though he still is amazing, doesnt' mean his tone is... sorry if this has offended anyone.
But I think it had to be pointed out! :)

good point to the both of you,,but dont I feel like the fool thinking it actually was a quad pre/power amp setup...
"Dee dee dee"

It has that certain fizzle to it that i sorta like, but then it sounds to thin and stuf, even if it IS the quad or the pod, it's not overall amazing..but your playing is.
