Oops... I didn't realize that there was a section dedicated to tone clips.

You can move this thread there if you like. Thanks

My MK IV sounds no where near what yours sounds like. Could it be because of the camera's mic? Also, I didnt watch the others but the JCM sounds very close to the MKIV and in reality, they are no where close. Did you have the BB preamp even for the MK IV?

I used a SM57 between the cone an paper and matched the recorded sound to the video. I agree that it doesn't sound like the cranked amp in the room, but it will give a good idea of what the amp will sound like recorded.

The MK IV is so sensitive that you can really achieve almost any sound. If I drop the mids on the 5 band eq (even a little) my tone on the amp would have been completely different. I love the Marshall upper mid roar, so when I eq my MK IV it is going to sound like that.

Recording with just the SM57 they do sound very close, but the mic did not capture how the Mesa had a more bass and had a significantly thicker sound. If I would had used another mic, like a Sennheiser E609, the cab "rumble" would have been captured better making the amp differences much more apparent. But I didn't want to deal with trying to get the mics in phase. I just wanted to do something quick and get a little recording/video making experience and give people some cool comparison clips.

And no I did not use a boost with the MK IV.
