I guess I should have indicated I use the Mark V for Heavy Metal and Hard Rock style of music. I do enjoy the blues and often use the clean channel. For me the EVM12L Black Label works fine in the Mark V. However, for the classic rock, blues and other styles I use an RA100 head with OS Recto slant front with V30's.
In regards to other comments, I would probably not install a cast frame type speaker like the EV into the Mark V as it is not a drop in, it will fit rear mounted but will render tube replacement difficult. Front mounting will resolve that but not an easy task since material needs to be removed from the grill and the speaker hole needs to be sanded for front mounting.
Someone had recommended a pre-rola type speaker, Perhaps a 100W version of a Scumback would be suitable. I have been looking at them for a while but have not decided to make that change.
There are ALNICO speakers out there as well. Jensen BlackBird is one I have seen with 100W rated voice coil. Scumback also has a 100W rated version of their ALNICO speaker. The ALNICO type speaker usually has the higher price tag.
Changing a speaker can be difficult since you cannot hear it first though your amp with your desired settings. Have you tried contacting speaker makers, they may be able to help you decide or at least recommend something to think about.
