Right now I am using a Rivera 4x12 loaded with Vintage 30's. In short, I am happy with the tone and how it pairs up with the V.

There is a guy locally that will trade me two of his Classic Lead 80's for two of my V30's. I've always wanted to try a 4x12 using two different speakers in an "X" pattern. I've always wanted to mic different speakers for live and recording applications, too. Just to see the kinds of tones I could get.

Can anyone vouch for these speakers and/or offer what they think of the tonal characteristics?

They're like a slightly clearer, edgier C90, if you're familiar with those. (Both speakers are derived from the old G12-80.)

Compared to the V30 they have a deeper bottom end, cleaner mids, no upper-mid spike, and a brighter top-end which can get a bit metallic if you drive them hard or with fuzz pedals, but not in a bad way. Very big-sounding, and they work really well with V30s.

every time ive heard them ive been impressed, but thats just my taste, they certainly wont go "off" like V30's do.

Thanks guys! I've actually never been impressed with V30's, but this Rivera had a lot more playing time on it than what my other V30 cabs had and sounds great.

I will most likely trade this guy. Thanks again!

I think it will be a GREAT trade. Combining those speakers together will give you a nice BIG, full sound. Report back on how you like (or dislike?) it!
