Does anyone know the tube assignment for a Carvin X100-B amp? This is the EL34 version.

Currently there are 3- 12ax7's in it all are GT 12ax7C's. There are two together and another by itself closer to the power tubes. I am assuming that the one by itself is the PI?

The power section is loaded with Mesa STR 440 EL34/6CA7's. I need to know which pair I am supposed to match. It has a pair of red and a pair of yellow in it currently. I want to make sure I have the pairs matched up correctly. Is it A/A/B/B or is it A/B/B/A? It isn't my amp but I was asked to look at it.

Apparently this amp hasn't seen much action in a while. It was being stored in a garage. I am hoping to do a quick run through it (check the tubes on my tester and make sure everything else works) as soon as I can get the matching sorted.

Does anyone know about the 440 EL34/6CA7? I only know about the 440 6L6. I didn't even know there was a 440 EL34. I might be able to convince them to retube it so I come up on some used tubes for experimenting with in exchange.

Hello Russ,

It is ABBA assignment and the preamp tubes are in a signal series. The one closest to the input is 1 and just follow in a line. IMO that was Carvin's best sounding amp, used to own 2- X100-b's a long time ago.....

I read some HC and Carvin forum reviews for sh!ts and giggles and found people liking them more than a Mark IV. Is that possible?

Thanks for the assignment help ursinus. At least I can try to fire her up now without worrying about damaging anything.

I didn't care for the stale tone of the Legacy myself. I haven't tried the V3 yet though.

I found that there wasn't much exciting about the Legacy. It sounded like a great basic tube amp platform to build on top of. I figured that was why Vai was into it. Again it was a little stale to my ears.
