Cant decide

Hi, I have a 5:50 Express plus and a Rectoverb 25, also have a 1967 Fender Vibrolux Reverb all combos. I am getting the itch to change things up. I do love the tone and ease of use on both Mesas. I have an opportunity to get a 80s Mark III 1 owner who purchased it directly from Mesa back in the 80s. I have never played one but have watched and read many reviews on what a great amp it is. I play mostly at home and play classic rock, 80s Hair metal and Country. I would probably have to get rid of an amp or 2 to get the Mark III. I was also looking at the Mark V which I am pretty sure could easily repace both mesas I have. But it will be a hard decision. Thoughts? I do plan on going to the local store to see what they have for Marks and play them.

Haha, I have room for 1 more, but depending on IF I get another one, I will get rid of at least 1..

I have a mark 3 blue stripe. Highly recommend these amps. Best I've played.

If you can get the Mark III at a reasonable fair price, they are exceptional amps. Sure, it has three channels but I would consider them as modes instead of channels as there is only one set of controls. I had a 1989 Mark III combo DRG blue stripe with the EVM12L black shadow. I have plenty of regrets for selling it. Probably one of the best amps I had for it being my second tube amp. I bought it at a Dealer in Reading PA when I lived up in the Northeast. At the time, I was not aware there were other options for power. When I tried it out in the showroom, I knew I was going to be taking it home. 24 years later I sold it to a friend at work 12 year ago. I get comments that his son is still making use of it. Just have to say that amp delivered in the band I was in. For a combo amp it did quite well. At least Mesa still has a manual in the archived for the amp so rest assured it will have some suggestions to get you started.

This guy wants $2150 for a 1985 purple stripe he ordered from the factory. Seem reasonable?

You can't go wrong with a Mark III, insanely good sounding amps. The Mark V doesn't sound nearly as good in my opinion. It's more versatile and easier to use, but it's not all the way there

I would say hold on to that fender Combo though!! That one much more difficult to replace than either of those mesas

Is the III you're looking at simulclass or a 100/60? have the graphic EQ?

Yes, Simulcast.I just looked the post again and realized no eq.. Darn, I thought it had an eq, so maybe don't want it as much now.... . And yes, I will NEVER sell my 1967 Vibrolux reverb! I was born in 67 so that one is a keeper. . Is a fair price for the Mark iii?

No. There were a lot of Mark IIIs made. Most people are going to want GEQ when you go to sell it. At that price, you should wait for one that has the options that you really want.

I wouldn’t spend that much for a III without a GEQ… I just bought a non GEQ purple stripe for $900. It’s great with an EQ in the loop but I wouldn’t pay $2k for a III unless it was a fully loaded model, and even then it would be a somewhat tough pill to swallow with what they used to go for lol.
