Hey all!

I picked up a new 2011 Dual Rectifier. Killer amp! I am also going to be picking up a Mesa Rectifier vertical 212. I don;t play metal but I do play hard rock, rock and classic rock. Any thoughts on speakers? I know it comes with V30s but I am looking for something fairly warm and good for the styles I mention, not so much for metal.

A lot of this will have to be my own testing but am just looking for some places to start so I am not endlessly trying speakers, LOL.

Thanks!

V30s match the best with rectos IMO

Thanks, not too bright? People say that about my 20th Anniversary Shiva and I think it is true. :)

Mesa V-30s are not the same as other V-30s. Different cone and some other differences. They are bassier, smoother, not as bright, and have a bit less of the 2K spike. That said, if the cab you're looking at is new, expect harsh, nasty, every bad trait associated with V-30s...until it breaks in. Play loud and it wont take long.

You might want to delete this dupe thread before NED sees it!!

I already tried but couldn't find how to delete! Only reason I created it was because I thought I placed the first post in the wrong forum, but couldn't delete this one. Any help?

You can try the roadking cab with both v30 and c90:

As for the double posting you have this blue cross above the "quote button" of your post.

I would look into WGS speakers. seriously.

I bought some WGS retro 30's and they are simply amazing. The detail and articulation is awesome. MUCH better than V30's IMO.

I don't think i'll ever buy celestions again. Why spend $150 for a V30 that is made in CHINA?!?!

I do love WGS and might stick with them. I have the Vet30/ET65 in a cab and might do that in my THD cab as well. Any other speakers of theirs you like? Their CL80 clone is not that great.

I thikn the Retro 30 is really bright but using the Vet30 up top and the Retro 30 below in a vert 212 might be good. A friend of mine tried two Vet 30s in the same cab but found he missed the low end so he went back to adding in an ET65.

Reaper HP. I was surprised how great these were.

Is the Reaper HP designed for clean tones or does it work with gain as well for hard rock?

Both, I think. Listen to the demo on the site, it is pretty accurate. It has a nice sparkle in the highs and just the right amount of cone crunch for high gain tones. A 4 x 12 with these suckers would handle 100watts. I'd say the speaker is less stiff than a v30 but definitely more firm than a g12T - 75 or G12H 30.

I think the cabinet is just as important! I read a review of Port City Wave cabinet where the guys mentions getting rid of his Rectifier cabinet because it was too harsh and bright in the top end, buzzy and too scooped.

That might have been me

I sold my recto 2x12 and got a PC 2x12 and have not looked back.
My Roadster now oozes with tone, and is ridiculously tighter than the recto
2x12. I don't even need a boost anymore.

Do you think the issues with the Recto cab were more because of the speakers, not the cab design?

I was looking at Port City cabs, Forte and Stone Age cabs.
