Hi:

First off let me say I'm only a basement warrior - I play for myself and often with my son - but not in a band or out anywhere.

I really like my son's 3-Channel Dual Rectifier but I can't justify one for myself.

There is a used Rect-O-Verb head at our local music store is good condition.

I like to play Alter Bridge and Foo Fighters.

Will a Rect-O-Verb give me a similar type of distortion to that of the Dual Rectifier on Channel 3 Modern? I don't need exact - but will it be close?

Also, how about the clean channel - is it really usable or is this amp intended more for the hi-gain crowd?

Thanks much!
Chris

I recommend the Mini-Recto. $999 brand new with a 5 year warranty. Two channels just like the ROV.

If the reverb is important use a reverb pedal in the FX Loop. The reverb on the ROV is solid state anyway.

I used to own a Rectoverb 50 Combo, and it was great with Foo Fighters. Nailed it dead on. Not sure about Alter Bridge, I don't listen to them. I quite enjoyed my Rectoverb while I had. If I wasn't GAS'ing for the current LP I have, I would still have it.

The Clean channel is fantastic. It is a great sounding amp. If it's anything over 1K, forget about it, and get a New Mini-recto, or something else. But, if it's around 6-800, and a Series 2 (Chrome Output and Solo Knobs) I would grab it ASAP.

All of that depends on what kind of Cab you are going to play through. I can only speak for my Rectifier 2X12 (or any Rectifier cab) will sounds fantastic with any Rectifier (or any other amp for that matter).

I own a rectoverb combo and seriously looking into getting a mini-recto with a 2x12 horizontal.

I dont think you will have an issue getting FF or alterbridge tones with a rectoverb. Just make sure its a Series 2. Having Modern on channel 2 is a dead giveaway. It you dont have modern on CH2 then dont bother with it, its the original.

I only rock out to my mp3s blaring and in all honesty a 50w mesa is too much power for me. I never have my output off the lowest possible setting. sometimes when my kids and wife are out I set it to 9 o'clock, but the amp has never seen 10 o'clock or higher on the output knob.

Just be warned. A 50w head is still really loud.

Im so gasing a mini...

+1, but I can't give up my Express, and I don't want to drop 1K on a new amp. But I am dreaming at night about the Mini. ****!

Well - it's done. I went and saw it over lunch and listened to it. It was just PERFECT for me. AND - it looks like it just came out of the showroom - not a mark on it and all the original paperwork and tags and footswitch.

It's the later version with chrome knobs all the way around and 'modern' switch on channel 2.

$700

Thanks much for all your input guys - I'm really not worthy or a Dual Rectifier :)

Congrats and welcome to the club!

Might I suggest a new pair of powertubes? You don't know how many hours are on the ones in there, and you can keep the old ones as spares. For your first Mesa I would stick with Mesa powertubes.
