If i only have one rectifier tube in, can i just run at 50 watts? I tried this with my 6l6's and worked fine. I just wanted to give a pair of KT77's a shot, though i rather not buy 4 of them and find out i don't like em!

i too have ran with two 6L6 valves
i too want to try two kt77 valves
i have tried four
but this amp is really really loud
i have a metal drummer and i cant get my master to noon
(that is around where all of you think this amp is doing its best?)

however
i am going to try two rectifier tubes with two power tubes
versus one recto and two power

can i safely run two kt77s
and TWO gz34?

what could go wrong?

YES! But make sure they're graded for the Mesa's bias range!

Bob at Eurotubes knows what's up.

what size cab are you running? Best way to cut volume is to use less speakers...

less speakers?
i thought more speakers would have more resistance
and would sound lower compared to the same watts into less speakers
(less speakers to soak up power?)
i dont really know what im talking about..

i use a shitty peavey 4x12
75w sheffields at 16ohms

say, i have to resolder the jacks anyway,
should i re-wire the cab to be 8ohms?
what effect would this give?

One speaker makes less noise than four; the relationship between power and volume is not linear.

My 5W Valve Jr through a 4x12 is subjectively louder than my 75W MkIII through a 1x12.

If you want to play quieter, get a 1x12.

If you run two rectifier tubes with just two power tubes you're asking for trouble !! If you want the amp to be less loud, don't use high gain tested pre amp tubes except for V1, use less boost and/or use a cab with inefficient speakers in it. A 4x12 with V30's in sounds twice as loud say, as a 4x12 with greenbacks in for instance.
