so i know the benefits of each closed and open back, but what about thiele cabs? also, is there any harm in taking a 1x12 open back and putting on a new back to make it closed? thanks in advance!

Mesa used to sell an optional panel to close up their open-back 1 x 12 cabs FWIW.
Same with the old metal-grill 4 x 12s (the top two speakers could be open-back).
