C+ pin 1 & 8 Connection Question

Both of my simulclass ( used ) came with 6L6's in the outer socket's. My understanding is that pins 1 and 8 need to be connected to run el34's. Is this a tone issue or is this done to prevent damage to the amp. Once these pins have been connected is it safe to go back to 6L6's without disconnecting pins 1 and 8 or do they need to put back the way they were. Also dose the same thing apply to a Mark 3 (purple). It came with the EL34's in the outer socket's. I got this used also. Thanks for any help you can give me !!!!

The 6L6GC tube does not have a pin #1. So this is a non-issue. The Mark III should already have these pins connected.
