Hi,

Long time lurker, first time posting after joining.... I wanted to share some shots of my Boogie Mark I head and Avatar cabinet. This Mark I is serial number A343, which is a fairly early head, probably from 1976. It's a 60/100, no reverb or EQ, but with both a gain and boost switch. I've actually been able to use the pre-amp send/return very successfully as an effects loop to run reverb, delay, etc., so I'm not sure if that was modded or was a special order. I sent it in to Mesa for service a couple years ago and Mike Bendinelli replaced the caps (original) and did a few other service items and safety improvements, and it sounds better than ever. It does everything from super-saturated, relatively high-gain (esp. with a boost pedal) to Bassman cleans, and I even made channel switching work with an A/B switch for the stage (as long as you use exactly the right settings).

I was running it through a Marshall 4x12 half stack for bigger stages about 10-12 years ago, and it worked great for the bigger-louder-heavier sound that I needed at the time. I subsequently bought this 2x12 Avatar built to match, and after trying many speakers, have settled on a combo of a Reverend All-Tone and a WGS Reaper HP.

It's a lot of amp for what I do now, and I'm trying to decide what the future holds for it, but it does sound fantastic. Happy to share some gut shots if anyone is interested....

Very cool. This is actually my personal holy grail amp -- a Mk. 1 head. Pretty sure it's where a lot of the sound comes from on Weezer's Blue Album.

Maybe one day... seems like they're pretty rare. Treasure it!

Definitely post detailed gut shots qf the amp. There are quite a few differences between the various Mark 1 amps. This amp will have the blackface style phase inverter stage as there isn’t a presence control. Though other amps with the same P.I. have a high cut control instead of boosting the highs with the tweed style P.I. found in some Mark 1 amps.

Thanks for the pictures, nice amp.

Regards

Mark

Gut and chassis/transformer shots below... interesting info regarding the phase inverter. Gotta love the X'ed out Fender stamp....:p
