I am thinking about purchasing a Mesa Blue Angel 2x10 combo in near mint condition. I have been checking out some sites about this amp and have a few questions if y'all could help. 1- What the hell is a "Mojo Module" and what does it do? 2- I keep hearing about a hum problem in earlier versions of this amp and that in later versions this was corrected. True/ false? 3- Does anyone have a handle on the serial numbers of these amps to determine the year of manufacture? Thanks. This is my first posting to the site and I'm happy to be aboard.

1 - the 'Mojo Module' is a graphic EQ circuit - the same as in the Mark and Dual Caliber series amps - which is set to either flat or a very slight EQ (I'm not sure which, and the module is resin-encapsulated so you can't seen inside it or any component values). What does it do - it makes the amp sound better.

2 - my one was certainly quite noisy, although it was hiss rather than hum that was most noticeable. This is because the amp has a bit too much gain after the volume control, so it's basically wide open the whole time - it doesn't get any noisier as you turn it up. Replacing V2 (not V1) with a lower-gain tube like a 12AY7 cures it, and also takes away some of the excessive midrange character that some people complain about too.

3 - not sure, but Mesa can tell you.

Thanks for all the good info. I did own one of these when I was only playing for a few years. I didn't really "get it" then. I feel like my playing style has evolved to the point where this may be a good amp for me now. Thanks again and Happy Holidays.
