I read a lot of comments from users stating that II C+ or IV sounds better in the original then in the Mk V. I think it would be interesting for someone who had access to the various amps to create unbiased samples of each but not actually list which is which, and then see which are preferred.

Tone is incredibly subjective. Like many people here I do not have access to A/B the Mk V with its predecessors, more so, many people do not have a history of using the earlier Mark amps.

A Blind Taste Test would be interesting to see if people who have little or no experience with the various amps display a preference one way or the other. Veteran Mesa users might provide interesting results, likewise, those who are adamant that their older amp is better, what would they choose in a blind test.

Like I said I can't do too much to start this, but if there is any interest, I can record and host MP3's for this, but haven't access to the amps. If you live in Vancouver and have access to the amps, or have the amps and recording equipment but no where to host the files, let me know and we can get something together.

Yes! I just commented in a different thread about the alledged difference,s (or not), between the V,s Mark IV/IIC+ modes and the real things.

I,ve never played previous Marks, so it would be way cool and very interesting to hear those results!

I have clips on my PC of a IIC+ and a IV over the same track and they sound extremely close. But in the room is where i heard the difference. Through my recording gear a lot of stuff kinda sounds the same.

I am next week-the V along with various different C+ amps-a Coli, a B+ export, a couple of fully loaded C+, and a 60/100....damn, this is gonna suck  ...talk about fun!!!

You left out the MkIII's. A green stripe simul and blue stripe 150 watt simul Coliseum. 8)

Coliseum will leave nothing but dust behind!

When I consider how gosh darn loud my Mark III and Mark IIC+ are I can not imagine how to use the coli given the stage volume my band runs (we are resonably quite on stage). Everything is mic'd too.

I have a Marshall SE100 attenuator/emulator that I used to use on a few amps (when I played louder...) BUT I am certain I would need it on a Coli. I also think it would need to be "worked" to get the intended tone. This makes me think i'll never get one because it would not suite the real world I have to perform in. I'd own one for braggin' rights.

Did mesa build them for very loud backline? I thought they were built for very special uses like rich touring musicians that were famous. Was that their market?

The Coliseum amps are not that much louder, but have INSANE amounts of headroom and dynamics, especially in the clean channel.

shoot! I forgot about how I read the watts/volume articles about amps. I should have remembered that stuff. I'm getting old (but that's a good thing nowadays)

Now I realize I do need one
thank you.

You nailed it my friend. I have nothing to add to that.

let's get our flights booked....

As I was digging through my stash of power tubes, I came across enough spare MESA STR-416's to load up the MkV with Sylvania 6CA7's in the EL-34 mode.

You will send your 416's to Silverwulf....You will send your 416's to Silverwulf..."

"Not gonna do it, not gonna do it". You will have to "snipe" them fair and square on Ebay like I did.

So, did the shoot-out happen? I need to know how much awesomeness was had. Could the Mark V hang with the cool kids?
