and I am pissed!!

i have run my d180 through this (with a bass, no less) and haven't had any problems. Then, today, Joey and Lesterpaul and I are running lester's IIC+ Colisseum through my thiele. We romped on it but nothing out of the ordinary.

Now it sounds like the voice coil is rubbing. If i tap the cone I hear something reverberating, almost. I can barely feel the coil rubbing when I manually move the cone.

I am going to call EV monday, because I would think this is under warranty. 150w < 200w.

Argh. Of course I have the first show I've played in two years tonight.

Uh ... Mark II-C Colosseum, is this Simul Class? You do know that a Colosseum (Class A/B) is anywhere a modest 175 watts to 200 watts. I know the bass amp D180 is 200 watts if I'm not mistaken[?]. So maybe you hit the frequencies where EV12 did not like from using it for bass and then transition to guitar was not a good idea. I don't know. I think a single speaker regardless how much watts should be at its threshold especially for guitar use.

I am well aware of the power output of the amps we were using. Have played both those amps through different thieles (with old EVs). Lesterpaul took his IIC+ home and ran it harder than we had it on my thiele, and had no problems.

the speaker makes noise, it's not blown altogether, so I think something is just loose. I hope. :p

Sounds like EV got misaligned somehow. Not sure though, I'm just guessing.

Side note anyone getting a speaker recone. Go to reputable shop. Some shop will just install a new voice coil and does not examine if its aligned so you get that "rubbing" sound you are experiencing.

Luckily I am really close to a repair center (Dixie Speaker). I won't have to ship that big ******* back to Michigan.

I completely agree with you RR. I wouldn't take my stuff to some podunk place.

Now I am running a reissue in my combo and an original in the thiele.

I found out the reissue uses the same voice coil as the original, but the cone is slightly different. This coming from the guy who rebuilt the speakers. They sound pretty similar. More importantly I realize they make every celestion speaker sound like a bowl of mush.

I guess you guys can come back. You bring a thiele of your own so we can have two this time. :p
