Biasing an amp yourself

Easiest way is with precision one ohm resistors, one for each tube. A drop of one mV equals a plate current of 1 mA, neglecting grid leakage, which is minor.

The bias rite has a built-in resistor, so you do not have to modify the amp, except of course that you may have to add a bias adjust potentiometer.

I used one of these for my JCM 800, worked great: http://www.amp-head.com/index.php?cPath=21 You'll need a decent multi meter with it. BE CAREFUL poking around inside an amp though! There's high shock potential...deadly actually!

i'd never pay someone to bias my amp, the bias probs make it to easy even for a noob!

I use an amp-head bias tester. Very good product and easy to use. Do a search for amp-head.
