what is the best way to get a good high gain sound from a mark III combo loaded with an ev.
it seems no matter how i set the 5 band, its either too middy, too boomy, or too thin.
any tips for a good balanced high gain metal tone from one of these without a closed back extention cab?

it'll sound funny unless you've got it backed up against the wall (i actually have mine in a closet-esque sort of thing)

vol: 7
treb: 8 (pull)
bass: 3.5
mids: 2-3
master: whatever (pull)
lead drive: 8-9
lead master: whatever

I am using a dano EQ, boosting 100, 200, cutting 400, 800, boosting 1600, 3200, 6400. Fairly soft V with the 800hz slider lowest.

I have GT 6L6GEs, gt ecc83 in v1, JJ ecc83 (same tube i think?) in v2, 3, 5.

I found that for rhythm stuff the EQ needed to be on or else it sounded funny. for solos and whatnot you can turn it off.

also, if you're just jamming at home, try turning the lead master to zero and turn your master to taste.
