you know... if i were you i wouldn't limit my choices by getting a guitar with emg's already in it. just find a guitar you want and then spend the extra $200 and put them in yourself. that way you're getting a unique sound you want including look and feel of the guitar, with an extra bonus of getting to learn about pickups and wiring if you install them yourself. :D I put emg 81 and 85 in my explorer and i'd never done it before. not too difficult. the jackson rr3 rhoads is pretty cool. go to the store... plug a bunch of different guitars in to your amp setup, and test em out. the nice thing about the emg's is that they will let your guitar's natural sound come through but cut out the noise and add clarity and bite. so don't limit your possibilities.

ps... schecter's blow.

I own 4 Schecters...Yes they need a little love right out of the box. Which takes about ten minutes of my time to set them up right. Yet when they are tuned up they are flat out hittin'. I've retired my old Ibanez RG and S for the Schecters when I play out live. Do yourself a favor and check out the Hellrasier FR.

Also, Check out the ESP/LTD KH-602, those things are pretty sick as well...neck-thru, dual EMG-81's, Floyd Rose ORIGNIAL trem, and awesome looks (at least I dig 'em, but then again I love 'tallica so whatever) for $949.00 USD.

Don't try to rule guitars out because of where they are made.

Also, why does it need EMGs stock? They are easy enough to swap in, and that opens up the choices like crazy!

If you can find an Ibanez RG520, I highly recommend it! I own one, and really can't understand why they have been discontinued. Mahogany body, original edge trem, fast as hell neck. By far my favorite trem guitar...and swapping in EMGs will be a sintch.

if you can afford it, ESP KH-2. best guitar ive played. i guess sig series or custom shop doesnt matter too much, but ive got the custom shop and its a beautiful guitar

Chiming in to say I love my C7 Hellraiser with EMG707s. No trem but there is a model with one like Guitarzan posted and it slays.

anybody got some favorite shredder pups? I'm leaning towards EMG 81/85/60 actives but I'd like to replace them myself and thinking passives are easier to swap in and out.

Personally I like the Duncan Custom or Blues Saraceno PA-TB3 in the bridge. The neck I've decided either the Dimarzio Tone Zone or Norton (not the Air), Depending on the body wood. Mahogany use the Zone, Basswood use the Norton. Now if you want a super clean but powerful pickup try The Bill Lawrence L500-XL in the bridge and the L500-C in the neck. Order them straight from his website.

For pups, either dual EMG 81's or 81/60 (b/n). Actives aren't hard to swap out, especially from EMG, everything comes pre-wired and the quick connects let you plug and play any combination of EMG pickups without having to do any type of re-wiring. The only thing you have to do is replace the output jack, and then soldier the wires to the pots (chart comes with the pickups with every possible set up) All you have to do is no how to soldier, and that's really not that hard.

Must be basswood (boy) vs. mahogany (man). Felt like some ***** toy.

it really depends what you're into i like the light feel of basswood, it's great if you..

A- play standing up for hours
B- have a heavy floating tremolo

i for one can't stand gibson les pauls, i think they are over priced rib busting wood slabs, but hey that's just me,
that doesn't mean that i don't respect people who either use them or record with them, i love the sound but can't stand any other part of the guitar,

if you're after a good emg neck through floyd guitar, i'd suggest going for an esp, the higher end models have excellent craftsmanship,

or alternatively if you want a go-to-guitar that is you number 1 guitar for the next five years and don't mind spending a little bit of extra cash consider getting a guitar custom made for you,

in the end it will have EVERYTHING you and only you want, where i live ESP standards are around $3,000 for this price you can get a custom guitar built just for you, with anything you want!

however if you're not sure how long you will use the instrument, then i'd suggest getting the ESP, as it will have a good re-sale value,

just my opinions,

pat

guitar is heavier than expected. great neck and high fret access. cool dark blue sparkly finish.

pups are OK (not great or bad although I like the bridge the best).

sustain is not as good as my Elitist LP but that one is a set neck and this is a bolt on.
Congrats. Sounds like my rg1570.

for shredding pups, The Dimarzio PAF joe is a wonderful Pickup. It stays clean when needed and gets od'd when you need it to. provides a nice lead sound for clean and distorted rhythm and leads.(neck)

Middle- I have a YJM in mine. Its ok but it doesnt sound like a traditional single coil. But if its a noiseless clean tone what you want its good

bridge- Mine has a Tone zone- good for anything thats overdriven basically. Great for shredding leads. Maybe a bit on the low output side compared to other pups but its nice and controled. Other options are the Evo. however they tend to pick up the nuisances of your playing so if you are sloppy you will hear your self be sloppy. The D sonic is ok. I have one in my 570, dont like it as much as my toen zone.

And the Fullshred from duncan is a great pickup. I have one in my 770. Its a great overall pickup.
