I was thinking of doing this... let me know if you see a better solution.

My goal is to be able to control my rack FX, stomp boxes and amps with a midi unit. Its important to me to keep my pedals infront of my amp though, I dont want to have them in the rack.

I was thinking of buying 2 voodoo labs pedal switchers to keep my signal strong (in front of amp), and then control it with a Ground Control Pro. I would also have 2 GCX's in the rack and they would be controlled by the GCP.

For what I'd like to do in a reasonable price range, is this the best idea?

Thx guys!

Why is it so important to you to keep your pedals on the floor? Not harrassing you, just curious.

Also, what will the 2 GCX's be used for?

I would put the pedals in the rack, connect them to the GCX loops, control them with the GC Pro, and eliminate the pedal switchers and a lot of unnecessary cables. This will make for a more managable rig as well as help in keeping the signal as clean as possible.

When you say you want your pedals "in front of the amp", do you mean physically, or in the signal chain?

It's easy to rack them and use the GCX's to add/remove them from the signal chain and decide which ones to go between your guitar and the amp and which ones you may want in the amp's loop (if you want to). Any midi controller can select your effects for you. Having them on the floor in front of you doesn't get you much unless you need to twiddle on the knobs during a gig....

I might not have asked my question properly, so instead of rephrasing my query, I'll just make a couple assumptions. Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Assumption 1 - You don't need your pedals on the floor, but in the case of your signal chain, you want them to be before your preamp.

Assumption 2 - One GCX would be for pedals, and the other would be to control your amp. OR you just have a ton of pedals and need more than 8 loops.

Either way, I highly suggest checking out RJM Music. If you have 8 pedals and want to control your amp, I'd suggest the RG-16. If you just have a ton of pedals, check out the Effect Gizmo. Both options are a couple hundred dollars less than two GCX's.

One thing I forgot to mention: RJM products are a TON easier to program than a GCX. They even have demo videos showing how to setup a Ground Control Pro to control their switchers.

Personally, I like the Ground Control more than the RJM Mastermind (RJM's midi foot switch). However, you might like the Mastermind, so check it out, too.

Cheers!
