Hey all,

I have a Dual rec, three channel, and after 2 or 3 seconds after switching on from standby, I lose a lot of bass. Anyone have a guess what might be the issue?

Thanks a bunch.

Welcome to The Board.

Before I help to troubleshoot this I have a couple of questions:

Is this a new issue with the amp, something that just started to happen?

How old are all the tubes?

Does this happen in all channels? Does turning the Bass control do anything?

What are your EQ, Gain and Ch Master settings?

How is your speaker cable? (it is a speaker cable, right?)

Hey all,

I appreciate the quick responses.

It just started happening. I replaced all the power tubes very recently, but none of the preamp tubes or rectifiers. I thought if a preamp tube went bad it would just be no sound. The issue began just before.

It happens in all channels. All of which have the presence at about 12:00, master at about 10:00, gain at 1:00, bass and treble at about 1:00 and mids at 8:00.

The cable is fine, I've tried numerous ones.

Thanks again guys. I really appreciate it.

The preamp tubes going bad can be intermittent. Mine did something similar when they started going bad. Good luck. I've read a lot of Dom's posts and he seems very knowledgable if it's more than preamp tubes.

I'll try that. It seems like its still playing too well for anything major to be wrong. Do you guys have any favorite tube combinations to replace them with?

Tung Sol in V1 is highly recommended throughout this board. I tried it and am glad I did. Search the web for Doug's tubes and he recommends and sells tube combinations for different amps. I ordered the rock set for my Single Rec and it made a big difference in my tone. There is also a metal set. Both have Tung Sol in V1.
