I'm a bit of a tube newb so bear with me!

On saturday I played a gig with my rectoverb, had a couple of years of shop use until i bought it just over a month ago, I've played it loud for around 6, 3 hour practices.

I noticed on playing that it was slightly quieter than usual, but carried on as the bar was now jammed and very noisy, so attributed it to this (plus my ears were a bit shot from the previous bands).

At the end of the set I was behind my amp and noticed one power tube was not lit, the other was fine.

The next day I reseated the tube, no dice. Swapped them over in their sockets, the same tube was dead (so i guess the sockets are fine, just the tube).

Am i right in thinking a new set of power tubes should sort this out (i've ordered a direct replacement).

I was assuming a power tube failure like this would blow a fuse or something, but the amp sounded fine.

Any input much appreciated

Yes, and it is always a good idea to carry a full set of tubes to a gig. Put in a new set of power tubes and see what happens. Most of the time tubes go out in a blaze of glory, so count yourself a lucky person!

If you have no other problems, consider yourself fortunate. Sometimes when a tube goes out, it will take out the fuse, or in the worst cases it can take out the cathode resistor with it.

Swap them out, and carry a spare set with you. Carry a few preamp tubes as well. When you notice any kind of volume issue, it's usually a tube.
