Well yesterday I saw a video of mark tremonti's guitar rig:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpcB7ZUEWV8

And here was his triple recto's setup

Bass: 10
Treble: 6
Mids: 4
Gain: 6
Presence: 3/3.5

People might say...bass at 10, **** thats like super muddy/bassy. But if you listen to his live tone - at least to me it doesn't sound bassy, sounds AWESOME.

I think the problem is not with recto...the problem is people liking the mark distortion but then gets a recto and tries to make it sound like a mark. I know a lot people think rectos are the only mesa amps. So please find out first if u like the famous recto tone then get one.

Not that I'm a huge Tremonti expert but I remember reading that he plugs his amps into some type of speaker sim/eq box which allows for some major tone shaping, along with whatever they are tweaking at the board. And in addition to regular 4 x 12s, runs into a cab with 15" speakers as well. Ya gots to have all of the puzzle pieces.

I wish there was a duncanamps tonestack calculator for the Boogie tonestack. That would be cool.

see the video....I dont think he is using anything like that.

I ran my DR with bass at 10 for a long time, it actually doesn't do what you think it does and tightens things up quite a bit surprisingly. It's all in how you balance your EQ.

exactly...I tried out tremonti eq at practice last night. I was pretty impressed with how it sounded. So before going all crazy on recto....mess/play with it.

Thanks for the link.

Watch it at about 2:40 in, there is a brief segment where he points out the di boxes in his rack and how he plugs the amps directly into them and how he uses no mics etc etc. Its pretty quick ya may have missed it.

Those are di boxes....all they do is take the signal from the amp and give it to the soundboard. So you dont have to mic the cabinet and the signal is stronger.

Yup. Exactly. I think we're pretty much on the same page man. I was only relaying that those Palmer adig-st DI units have quite a bit of
tonal control to compensate for what a speaker would actually do with various knobs and switches for lows, highs, filters and hi cut capabilities.

Anyhow, as per Joe Meek, if it sounds good it is good.

Right on! Rock on!

Daveyboy... Daveyboy... LOL You think like me! Except I use my TS 808 throughout Oktoberfest! LMAO

I do have a custom beer stein holder mounted on the side of my MKIV with a couple of #10 wood screws. Buggered up the tolex but at least now I don't have to worry about where I put my beer. Also, Walter Schmenge slipped on a Bavarian mustard covered pretzel a few years ago and fell into my MKIV causing my old stein to fall over and pour Warsteiner all down the front of my amp. Luckily the Lemon Twins were still sober enough and were able to take over for a set while Walter cleaned up the mess. Now I bring this all to your attention due to the fact that as Walter went down (he was falling at roughly a 45 degree angle trying to prevent his own stein from spilling) I did notice a definite drop in the bass my MKIV was producing...
Now, I'm sure that Walter had something to do with it. Although he has always maintained maintained his innocence and that it was in fact the Lemon Twins who planted that mustard covered pretzel there and were attempting to sabotage my sound. Walter maintains that because the Lemon Twin have been using rectifiers lately trying to get more bottom end out of their guitars they are trying to sabotage my MKIV sound! I have no use for the rectifier series as I cannot keep a drink on the amp. And the beer in my stein gets too foamed up when sitting in my stein holder using a rectifier.
Although Gerta Lemon maintains that she can mix a mean margarita using her stein in her road king mounted holder this is obviously more rectifier propaganda.

It was Josh who fell (those close to him call him by is real name Walter) Just wanted to clear any confusion for all you Schmenge fans out there.

I thought I had a good story about my Boss ME-10 getting covered in baby oil from a stage dancer who was squirting it at another stage dancer who was wearing some kind of animal mascot suit, with no head. Your story be better.

The ME-10, however, didn't even notice the baby oil.

Maybe you should read what the post actually says before you start flaming... it was about guitar/pickup combos through a recto, not rectos themselves which I even reiterated in another post; its not my fault everyone decided to start a "rectos are bassy I hate them" bash. I think one or two people answered my actual question, but still there's no need to be a troll... don't post if you think the thread is stupid
