Has anyone put all EL34's in their Mark 5 yet? How about just the two outer spots? Well................ :p

Wasn't there some confusion about being able to mix tubes like this? The bias switch is either el-34 or 6l6 so I'm still not convinced you can do this like the old Simul-Class method.

Has anyone got A/B soundclips of 6L6 vs EL34? I would be interested to see what is brought to the table before deciding on investing in another set of tubes.

I also want to know what channel 3's C+ setting sounds like with EL34s. I am a longtime Metallica fan, and I wanted to hear how close a Mark V with EL34s can get to the Master Of Puppets tone (which was a C+ slaved into a Marshall power section).

I will say that I finally got to play on a Mark V for a while this past weekend, and it was MUCH brighter than I expected.

Someone post some EL34 clips please!!!

it's been covered, it won't hurt anything.

Surely if you run any 6L6s with the bias set to EL34, you will fry them very quickly?

I should think that you can only use a mix of EL34 and 6L6 with the switch set to 6L6, then it will be similar to a simul setup.

Metallica would most likely have US sold Marshalls which had 6550 tubes, so you're actually probably better off with 6L6s

AAAAhhhh vindication: http://forum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=37453

Kidding man... I know that it was said here, but I never felt right about it. Why would they have a switch to specify either el-34 OR 6l6? Anyway, it is cleared up now.
