Anyone put a V30 in a 5:50 1x12?

As my title suggests, I'm wondering if anyone has done this and how they liked the sound?

I did better than that.
I had a custom 2x12 cab made with V30's.
Wired it so that I could run either
a) the combo alone w the black shadow
b) the combo and cab = 3 speakers
c) the cab alone with v30's

I prefer the V30's to the black shadow from clean thru OD and distortion.
Fuller, thicker, richer.
If you like v30's it's a winner

I put a V30 in my 5:50 1x12 combo and it sounded just like the stk speaker IMHO. I settled on a red fang, love it, a little brighter then stk (in a good way) but, Nothing wrong with the stk speaker. make sure you break in the stk speaker before you start buying new speakers.

Just take note that the v30 can handle a little less power than a c90(max 60 watts) which in my opinion is a perfectly good way to blow it if your 5:50 gets turned up and sends many spikes of well over 60 watts.

I also tried odd number od speakers, specifcally 5!internal speaker plus a 4x12. But the end result is that I always heard the internal speaker over the others.

Even with 3 speakers, the one(internal) is getting say 25 watts rms top and the other two get another 25 watts. But each of them should be getting 12,5 watts each and as a result will always be a step back...volume wise.

I just put a Wharehouse Guitar Speakers 12" Retro 30 in my Boogie widebody open back cab. Use it with my Express 5:25 1x10. Brighter with a tighter with deeper low end....sounds great on all of the channels. 75 watts should work with you.

Haven't actually swapped it out with a combo but I can say that I much prefer the sound of V30's to the stock speaker in the combos. The Black Shadows are way too muddy for my taste. The V30's really bring out the clarity that got me interested in this amp in the first place.

We order a number of our express combos with vintage 30's in them. Personally I'm partial to that speaker. I think it sounds considerably better for high gain tones. If cleans are your thing however, you may like the black shadow better.

It's noteworthy too that Boogie won't charge you any extra to ship your amp with a vintage 30 in it.
