Anyone familiar with Asbestos?

Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with asbestos in old buildings. Been doing a re-model in an old building (1893) and was told that the roofing material has asbestos (After four days of work) but the actual wood (Rafters and joist) has some type of white coating like old paint.
Did they used to fire proof wood with a type of asbestos "White Wash"? Stuff burns your skin and makes your eyes burn like crazy. I will post some pics latter. I don't work there any more and me and a co worker spent about 40 hours doing shear extensions ( Continuing shear walls to roof)
Any help would be appreciated.

looks like thermal asbestos spray(had to look it up,but thats what i recall...)-i worked a little construction YEARS AGO, but i remember seeing that stuff-we were refurbishing an old historic house, and that stuff was found-bossman basically called in a haz-mat team
does it have a fiber-like texture?

Stay well away from asbetsos and get a professional opinion. Here in Australia there are 250 + new cases of mesethilioma (fatal cancer) every year.

Yes it has a texture like fiberglass. I saved a piece of timber that we had to cut out along with some of our clothing that we wore just to get tested. I called OSHA but they seemed like either they didn't know what I was talking about, or didn't care. I just want to make sure we didn't get exposed to 40 hours of hazardous dust making other people money.

So, I called cal orca again and they said I have to file a formal complaint before they can do anything. We quit and they are sending another crew in to "Finish" the job.
I once was cited for having a 50 cord on my skill saw, had to put it up or remove the cord. My have things changed.
