I will have my first gig (not even a practice) with my Mark V. I was playing my IV combo previously on top of my thiele, but will only be using my thiele since I have V the head. I have an old Laney 412 cab, but it is not that great. It came with the Hard Core Metal solid state heads, and the speakers in it are a mix of Carvin vintage and Celestion g12m-70s, so I dont think I will be using it. Anybody use only the thiele with good results?

I had one ordered at work several months ago, and we sold it with a head (to a guy who sold his TSL100 and never looked back). It had a C90.

It sounds, for all intensive purposes, like a regular thiele. I won't lie. It sounded just like my thiele cab did when it was new and had the MC90. I didn't directly compare them of course, but this was the overall impression I got after spending several hours with the cab and a V.

So, it'll sound friggin' great live. It is sort of a darker cabinet, so bear that in mind. I use my V combo with my thiele, so our setups are similar. You may need to compensate for the lack of the combo (which is gonna be pretty bright by nature) by adding some high end.

Also, if you're micing it, you may try to get the sound guy to put a mic on the speaker AND the port. A lot of low end comes out of the port.

I just received my 1X12 wide body/ closed back/ front ported cab . Its not referred to as a Thiele though . I ordered mone with a V30 as im not big on C90s . Love the cab . Nice and punchy

Mesa doesnt refer to it as a Thiele though .

I've noticed that. Some people will call it a Thiele, but some wont. I have seen someone argue the fact that it can be called a Thiele, but dont remember what he said. For me it is less to type  and it sounds cool. I dont know whether I wanna buy another of the same, or get a widebody with an open back.

i have been one of the people arguing ;)

it's not 'technically' a thiele cabinet (and some of us know that technically correct is the best kind of correct)

Two Australian guys named Thiele and Small (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiele/Small) came up with a way of measuring how loudspeakers work. The "mesa thiele cab" is built specifically for an EVM 12L speaker, by taking the Thiele/Small parameters of the speaker into account. Things like internal volume and port dimensions are determined by these parameters.

This new widebody cab is a closed back front ported cab, much like the Thiele cabinet, but its internal volume is different (among other things). The widebody cab is not designed around the MC90 in the same way the Thiele cab is designed around the 12L. The widebody cab was simply voiced by ear and trial and error. This is how Mesa has designed most of their newer cabinetry.
