I just picked up an ROV II to go along with my DC-5. My current band wants to play some heavy stuff that the DC couldn't quite do convincingly enough.

:D Plus, I'm going to run them in stereo, the ROV behind me and the DC on the side with the Bass player because it cuts better.

Anyway, I've owned 3 of these now. I really love them, but the Reverb absolutely leaves me wanting.
Anybody have a good mod for it?

Kind of funny that an amp with 'VERB' in the name doesn't have a better reverb. I'm not a fan of Spring Reverb, but the reverb on the DCs is actually tolerable - I suppose because it is tube driven...

That doesn't help your situation... sorry! :) Congrats on the amp (again)!

Yeah, I've always wondered about that too.

They should have used 1 more tube and charged another $50 for the amp.

On a side note, your reverb will sound very nice after you send it to me!

I dont know... the Roadster has tube reverb and I hate it. The express has a tube long spring reverb and I love it. so both are tube driven but the express' reverb is 10x better than the Roadsters. Persoanlly though i've always liked the reverb from an external unit a lot more than stock amp reverb, except for the roland jazz chorus.

Yeah the reverb in the ROV is very digital sounding to me. Here's a nice list of generic amp mods. Middle of page is a reverb mod:

The combination 10pF/3.3Meg network is necessary, otherwise the Reverb circuit would be 'swamped out'. This is an interesting area to attempt at increasing the gain through the amplifier. By lowering the 3.3 Meg resistor (and increasing the 10pF capacitor) we increase the gain of the preamplifier, at the expense of reducing the Reverb driving signal. Unless you play with your Reverb control on '10', and still need more Reverb, you can live with a little less, right? Start with 2.2Meg/20pF and work from there. It has been said that with this modification in place, the average guitar player who set his Reverb control on '3' now needs to set his Reverb control on '4'.

The schematic shows a similar 10pf cap and 3.3M resistor in parallell. It wont change the bad sounding reverb but they say it will increase gain which could reduce some of the buzz in the amps distortion.

Maybe the only way to get the ROV reverb sounding good is to redesign the circuit and get rid of all the transistors and diods... I wish I new how to do that.

serial fx loop mod + electroharmonics holy grail or some such pedal. problem solved.

That's what I was afraid of.

I really like tube reverb. My Twin has some fantastic surf guitar reverb that would make a lonestar scream in fear! But, I have to be at Ted Nugent volumes to achieve any kind of overdrive.

I just bought a G-System, so we'll see how that reverb (or those reverbs) is.
