A few months ago I got a Killer deal on a very clean Mark IV head. I have been absolutely loving it ever since.

I would love a Mark V but at the moment with the current job climate and avialable funds just can't do it.

Selling my Mark IV head combined with the cash I have would get me most of the way there. But every time I think about selling the IV, I get sick to my stomach. I absolutely love this amp.

I have a Road King as well, but I'm not exactly ready to sell that either. Especially considering the fact that the Road King, being a recto, can do things that the mark V can't, where as the IV and V will be much more similar.

Just curious if anyone went ahead and sold there IV to purchase there V. And if there were any regrets.

Thanks

I have a 1x12 Mark IV Hardwood Combo I purchased new about 1.5 years ago. I plan on buying a Mark V head sometime in the future (maybe not this year...for same job insecurity reasons).

That said, no way in hell I sell my Mark IV. I've been through so many amps looking for the sound I've got in the IV. Only reason I am getting the V is that I want the versatility of running the Mark through various cab types without lugging the weight of the combo and the cab.

However, if Mark IV head prices start to plummet in the sub $1K range, then I may not tough a Mark V for a long time -- and just get another Mark IV in a head.

I did, the V does what I got from the IV, yet it does so much more and does it better.

I don't think the price of the mark IV will fall as low as some are predicting.

I actually got my head locally from a guy for 800$. I feel comfortable I will easily get that much.

I can't this weekend, but next weekend I might throw the Mark IV in the car and see if I can A/B it with a V.

The thought of selling it makes me want to barf though. But I also am really dying for a V

My friend did. Sell it NOW before value drops.

I did. I didn't want to but did it for the same reason...Mark IV was still commanding a high used sale price. The wait has been agony. I have been ampless since January 3rd.

I just did a completed listings search of Ebay of all Mark IV heads that sold, after adding them cand calculating the average it comes to 1359. Low head went for 1099, high went for 1750. If I throw out the low and the high, the average was 1332.

It's hard to say if the price would go down because of the Mark V, or simply because the economy is bad and getting worse every day.

Either way I am willing to accept the risk.

Besides, boogie is infamous for coming out with Rev 2, or B versions or plus versions, or purple stripes. Then everyone with the original version ends up being all pissed off. So it might not be a bad thing to weight a little bit.

I think the V is one of the times that they got it right the first time. I have been playing it for two weeks now and I can't complain about a single thing. I don't know what they could improve upon.

Yes, and didn't look back.

Ditto to everything said so far.
Only thing I miss is the Bubinga Hardwood & Wicker. Since I don't play "the metal" I don't need black...

The MkIV is a GREAT amp. all of the boogie Marks were, (although I never really liked the III).

This one just KILLS it.

I'll buy a used MarkV in a few years when everyone is unloading them to get the Triaxis II or whatever the next obsession is.

It will be USED and still cost 2 grand. Just get a new one. Sell something for a grand and make a sacrifice, man!!!
Come on man! Im trying to talk myself out of buying a $2000 amp. Just let me have my delusional fantacies alright. Maybe Ill get some new pedals or a complicated multi-effects processor to keep myself buisy. :?

I'm keeping my Mark IV Short Head for now. It's such an awesome amp. I have the A version (circa 1991). I would have a very tough time letting it go (if I ever did). I actually thought about turning my MKIV short head into a compact combo with hardwood cabinet and wicker grill, once I get my MKV head.

I'm fortunate enough not to have to sell my Mark IV, to get the Mark V head.

I'll make the final verdict when I finally A/B the two side by side, but I recon I'll keep both :D

Damnit!

I was hoping I was going to get like 5 or 10, "no way man, don't do it, get the V but find another way then selling your IV"

You guys are no freaking help at all!

Now I am torn and even considering throwing the Road King into the mix which would probably be a bigger mistake since no Mark can do what the Recto's do (and vice versa).

I need to AB one of these before I put anything on the market and make sure I have a clear head about it!

In all seriousness, thanks for the honest feedback!

i say keep the mark IV. you have to consider that the MKv is just a collection of older amps not really a new one. Then consider that when you sell your MkIV, some of your tones you will NEVER be able to get on the MkV because it only has ONE gain control , not a gain and drive.

If you really love it, then what are you really uprading for? To keep up with the jones? If it makes the sound you love, by god keep it, and spare yourself having to tweak all over again, play with tubes, just to get the same sound you loved before, but had already purchased.

I may have misinformation, but I heard part of the reason the mark IV was discontinued is they simply can't get the PARTS to build them anymore. If there's truth to this, I wouldn't count out the Mark IV just YET.

The Mark V vs. Mark IV debate may be very similar to the Roadster vs. 2 Channel Recto argument.
