I'm in the market for a 6L6 amp and seriously considering getting the new Lonestar w/ 100-50-10 watt version.

Anybody here have one? I'm especially interested in the 10W setting as I used to own the original version. Thanks.

I have played through one and I could tell that the 10 watt setting is very nice. Really nice dirty sounds as well as clean. I have to say that the clean channel on that amp is amazing. It took a little bit to get use to the dirty channel has alot of bottom but could be tamed. Very nice Amp.

I'm wondering if the 10w setting could get the dirty tone of LSS.

I looked at loads of amps before buying by new LSC, which i have owned since June (ordered in Feb). It is a great amp and the 10w setting works really well on both channels, the tweed power setting also adds something really special.

The reverb is like no other I've ever heard. You can get a very wide range of gain sounds once you tame it, though if metal is your thing forget it as you will never get a Rectifier sound out of it. That said I play a wide variety of styles and have not run out of gain yet :)

I'd agree with the other poster about the amount of bottom end in this amp. When I first got it I was actually a little disapointed with how my strat's sounded using the neck pickup, it was even bordering on unusable at higher gain settings. NOW, i've trained it and am learning the dynamic across the tone controls, and am always getting complimented on my tone with all pickup positions. It is incredibly versatile once you spend some time with it and i can not see me ever needing another amp.

It has also improved the sound of my effects and a JMP1 that i use occassionally with one band in a mini rack rig - it sounds fantastic through the power tubes of this amp! I know the purists will have a fit, but it does sound good.

Personally I couldn't be happier with this amp.

I have it -- a 2007 LSC Head....and with EL84 Yellow jackets -- it definitely nails the LSS tone....especially in the 10 watt setting

Thanks for the reviews. It's good knowing the possibilities especially with the 10 W setting and the Yellow Jackets!

I think the LSC would be be an excellent compliment to my VOX AC30 and Orange RV100. OK . . . I've got major GAS 8) for a 1 x 12!

I can't tell if you are looking at the LSC more because of the 10 watt mode or because of the 100 watt mode. If you don't need 100 watts, you might want to at least try the Express 5:50 1X12 for about 2/3 the cost of an LSC. It is a 6L6 amp and runs at 5 or 50 watts. I only play at home and it works great for me.

I tried the 5:50, and it's a great amp for the price. But, I'd rather get a used LSC if I could find one for almost the same price as a new 5:50. But, I really like the LSC clean and its headroom.

Think about a used LSC without the 10 watt option (around $1,000 used) versus a new one with the 10 watt option (1699???).

I REALLY think a used LSC is on the short list of the best amp deals out there. I have a Carr Slant 6V, two Victorias, a Vibro King, a LSS, and I used to have a Z Maz 38 and I REALLY think the LSC is the best of the bunch.

I got to try the 10W mode on the new LSC, and was not impressed. It seemed like an afterthought. It certainly doesn't come close to the impressive LSS.

I guess I'm still an EL tube guy.

Class A on 6L6 does not sound the same as with EL84s or EL34s....

You might feel differently about that 10 watt mode if you put 2 Yellow Jackets in there. Very LSS like.

JAZZGEAR,
I believe you about the Yellow Jackets. But, I'm a purist. I like to take the amp as is and to love it for what it offers right from the Mesa headquarters. Hmmm. . . . I may have to reconsider the LSS though.

I'm also looking into Carr amps (Rambler and Vincent).
