I'm waiting a while. I'd hate to buy one early and then find out the Mark Vb or Mark V II is coming out address "issues" with the original.

I will NEVER sell my Mesa rack... it is just not going to happen!!

Never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, NEVER!!!

Not even for a mark V... even if I try one and decide it is a perfect amp... I already have a few 'perfect' amps so I would still prefer to save up rather than let one of my babies go if I really like it that much...

+1 here, I am curious. Besides, as people ( the early amp adopters) grab the V's, maybe the Mk IV's will become less expensive.

No the rack stays. My Quad does everything that I want in a amp. The only thing that can make it any better is a 395... or a stratagy 500 :D

+1 The Mark V looks fun... but a revision is bound to come.

sell the recto, I had a RK1 that I sold...

I considered it for a while, but have been using the Old Recto as one of my main gigging amps at the moment. That, and the Stiletto II. 2 different bands, 2 different sounds and styles.

but i have never been fond of my Triaxis. not sure what it is...when I DO use it, i love the tone i get on some of it and i find it very inspiring in a Manowar kind of way (big and grandiose metal). But I have been growing tired of the whole rack gear thing lately, and have been using my heads mainly...there something i like about the simplicity of guitar>amp>cab, as apposed to guitar>rack>pedals>cab>hours of programming playtime just to plug it in and it doesn't sound quite right on stage.
I was never fond of my JMP-1 either, but have recently been liking that a little more.
Same goes for the 2:90. Ever since i bought the Marshall EL34 100/100, my 2:90 gets very little use. I am starting to wonder if i am more of an EL34 person over the 6L6 tubes...(my Recto has EL43L's, My Stiletto has STR-450 EL34's, the Marshall is an EL34 and the 2:90 is 6L6).

If i get a Mark V, i wonder if i will want to use the stock 6L6's or switch that up with EL34's as well.

I just blew a huge wad buying a PRS Tremonti II, so right now my finances are seriously in pain...and I have been selling things off slowly, but it is getting harder and harder to figure things out.

My thoughts:

1, If you are really happy with something and it works really well for you - do not get rid of it! How many of us have a ''I regret I sold that one'' list?

2, If you are not happy with something, you should get rid of it and try a bunch of other stuff so as to make your own mind up. The latest gear just might or might not be your thing... best to try it all first so as to get what really suits you.

3, Then there is this one: sell your old stuff even if you like it and get a new amp anyway... the challenge, adjustments and 'honeymoon' period might inspire your playing to a new level!

Oh yeah... then there is the money side of things... if it is really meant to be this will sort itself out.

yeah we need to meet up sometime to do a marshall rack demolition test. i love my jmp1/monobloc, it's sick with the g major and mesa 412 cab![/quote]

We do. You can show me how to actually use all this stuff (i haven't gotten the hang of the G-force at all and have hardly any user presets made in the JMP-1.

you wouldn't want to join a band would you?

I'm looking for a Lead player for my heavy band (http://www.evilepitome.com)

you just let me know when. You know I have all those amps to screw around with.

would be cool to see what someone other than me could do with all of it.

I want to sell my TriAxis/50-50 anyway, so I'll just use the cash for a Mark V. Then if it turns out to be as good as I hope I'll sell the Mark IV also.

I recently bought Rectifier preamp to rack with my Stereo2:fifty, but soon after (while spending lots of time in WC with latests Guitarworld magazine 8) ) I saw MarkV ad and started thinking perhaps I should sell my tired rack gear for a head... until I looked at price tag here in Europe... 3000€ (~4000$). Maybe I'll wait some time... :D

I played a Mark V and I'm keeping my Triaxis. The Mark V sounds great (a bit sharper than the Mark IV), but not worth selling my rack gear over.

I'm selling my Triple Recto to buy one though... :D

when you say sharper, do you mean brighter? The IV is pretty bright, with "normal" settings, imo

Nope.

The sharpness = the tone being more focused...think classic 80's Boogie Mark sounds. I primarily played the IIC+ setting, and it sounded wonderful, the tone and the tightness were like nothing I have ever heard but it still sounded like a classic Mark, if anything. The Mark IV setting was a bit deeper and murkier, it was hard to get a clear tone, I felt the gain settings and eq settings were a bit more harsher and more difficult to dial in. I wish I could have jammed on it more, but the guy standing over me was pretty eager to throw down his $2,300.00 for it. Overall, I feel the tone I get out of a Triaxis is slightly better, but I am partial to rack stuff anyway.

I am selling my Triple Recto (http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/msg/1068387227.html) for $1,300.00. I'm willing to negotiate if you have cash that is close to that.

The Mark V looks like it's a great amp, but it also looks simply like a head version of the Triaxis. The only differences I can tell are that it has a changeable Triode/Pentode mode and it has one more clean channel than the Triaxis. Other than that, the sounds as Mesa describes them seem to be identical or at the very least pretty close. I have not had the opportunity to try a Mark V out yet, but the clips I've heard online don't seem to differ much from the Triaxis or Mark IV sounds, which is a good thing, I think they're Mesa's best high-gain sounds. Heck, the Triaxis is basically a bunch of Mark series preamps anyway :)

I'm super happy with my TriAxis / 2:90 setup, and it'd have to be something pretty extraordinary (and MIDI switchable) for me to move to a different amp.

what's the deal with the phat/non-phat options? seems like a lot of guys don't like the phat option but that's the newer version? so why did they release a less-liked newer version of TA preamp?

The original triaxis Lead 1 red is a vintage sound, it doesn't get any more gain than maybe an AC/DC sound, and is really good for blues and vintage tones. It's just a bit more gain than Lead 1 Yellow.

The Triaxis with the phat mod is the one that was available from I believe the late 90s to about 2005 or so. It had a Lead 1 Red sound that mimicked the vintage mode on a dual rectifier, and it had a separate piggy-back circuit board in the chassis.

The newer Triaxis models, the ones made since either 2006 or 2007, have reverted back to Lead 1 red being that vintage sound again. The story from Mesa had to do with not being able to get the parts or something for the second board anymore, or that it wasn't cost effective.

There are two versions of the Triaxis software too. According to the manual, version 2.0's main difference is in continuous control. i.e. you can control each individual parameter of a preset via MIDI (like sweeping from a high gain sound to a clean sound with an expression pedal while using the same preset).

I know all that can be confusing, and the manual doesn't make it easier, but that's what I know about it to the best of my ability.
