Hi everyone! I have a Quad pre and an Abacus footboard (sort of - read below)

The Quad has 'Abacus only' nex to a particular socket. Does any body know IF I can make a lead u,p will the Abacus switch the Quad? -maybe a dumb question but I actually have to get back my Abacus I just sold if this works so I cant actually make a mock lead to test it at the moment- was hoping somebody could shed some light though I think its too specific a question and such an old method of switching so I have my fingers crossed.

To add to it, this particular serial HAD the midi option but its faulty ( I think) and I just sold an Abacus with a Triaxis thinking Id never need it! If the Abacus does switch via this connection, Im hoping to MIDI out to an effects unit to eliminate tap dancing

thanks :)

You can make your own cable or buy one. I know someone who sells them. I bought one from him on Ebay to connect my Abacus to my MidiMatrix. This is the same cable to connect the Abacus to the Quad (if the Quad has the special Abacus jack already). Here is one of his auctions.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Mesa-Quad-Pream...39:1|66:2|65:13|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

His name is Billy Sutherland and his store in Louisville, KY is called Addicted To Tone.

Good luck.

Thank you Bobby!
I guess my question still remains as to how the Abacus would switch the Quad without the matrix? Obviously the Abacus can send 10 PC's per bank via MIDI but how do you 'sync' or 'program' the Quad to switch channels that you allocated per preset on the Abacus WITHOUT the Midi Matrix?

Before I owned the Quad I just thought the signal was:

Abacus--->Midi Matrix (via midi connect)--->Quad (via 1/4" tip/sleeve connect) I always wondered what the '4 pin' socket on the Abacus was used for until now.

Some Quads have a jack for the cable to go from the Abacus directly to the Quad (which you said your does). Since it has this direct jack for the Abacus I would think the Abacus would work just like an FU-2 or FU-2A. I still need to get a Quad and find out for myself first hand(foot?).

Get the cable and try it out!!!

hmm... wish I never sold my matrix and abacus....

let us know how things workout!

I just realised even if I CAN get back my abacus that I sold, I'd have to get those special 4pin plugs from somewhere? Mesa?

See my first post above. Billy Sutherland sells them on Ebay but you can probably call his store Addicted to Tone in Louisville, KY.

The one I bought from him works perfectly with my Abacus and MidiMatrix.
