hey guys

whats your views on these amps

I gave one a test drive a few weeks ago and went back to the local store with a friend who is looking for a new amp

we spent a few hours with the amp and both were very pleased with the outcome of our grueling test drive

just wondered what you guys thought

it sounds strange but my friend wasnt sure on it because it was sooo cheap but sounded great

any views would be great
cheers

I played a 6505+ at a Sam Ash one time, and it sounded pretty sweet. However, I played a vanilla 6505 at my local store, and it was waay too loud for the store, so I couldn't really play it very much.

I had an older 5150 and played a couple of the 6505's and I think they are really great for what they do, they're not the most versatile amp on the market, but they do what they do amazingly.

I test drove a MIM Strat HSS through one the other day. I forget if it was a head or a combo, but it sounded pretty good. (Great bottom end.)

Of course, not good enough to make me part with my Ace!

having exposure to the 5150 series and have modded and biased quite a few of them I attest to the capabilities of these amps...when properly biased with good tubes and worthy speaker cab(s), these are killer sounding amps. I've come in close contact with a 6505 and felt the same way about them as a stock 5150...needs work to make it happen....specifically the good tubes and biasing....you just can't imagine how night and day the 5150's are having this done to them....you can forget about the "fizz" 'cause note articulation is more pronounced and harmonically enriched.

+3000 every peavey I've owned needed to be biased hotter and different tubes in it.

the combo's don't seem to have the crossover distortion problem the heads due i've read. Crossover distortion meaning there biased to close to class B.

i also think that they are amazing at what they do. also a theres a plus to this amp besides the great distortion, no matter how u dail it in, it still somehow has a way of covering up small mistakes in your playing. i suggest getting one if you're looking for some awesome distortion. good luck!

Given you could have any amp you wanted, there's only one sound I would use out of the 6505, but it's a darn good heavy chug, at any price.

I also liked the sound of the 6505 a lot more than the 6505+ (or 5150 over the 5150 II); less anemic.

the 5150/6505 are great amps. look at any metal band in the world. almost everyone have used them. arch enemy is back on track and use them live, machine head use them. children of bodom used them before

I sat down with a 6505 2x12 closed back combo for about 2 hours a little while back. At first I have to admit i was not impressed with this amp... it got sold and the purchaser brought it back within 3 days for a exchange... the amp had a major meltdown... blew tubes, fuses and pcb components.

I then went back and tried the amp thinking it was another amp and not knowing it was the same one and the story behinds it's return.
Second time around it sounded much better... not killer but very cool and I was impressed. Bottom line is the 6505 is a great sounding amp for the $$$ but I'm not sure on Peavy's build quality and subsequent reliability.

They do have a decent warranty though.
