I've grown accustomed to my 6505+ head and have a Roadster, but there's a guy in my town that wants to trade his Dual Rectifier Rackmount version for a 6505+ and I'm thinking of doing it.

Thoughts, opinions?

I know they're rare, and I just want to make sure that the trade is worth it!

Thanks!

as long as its in good working order do it in a heartbeat!!

agreed the rack mount recto holds its value much better than the 6505+. In fact most Mesa amps retain there value very well.

I'll chime in for the recto. If you end up liking the 6505 better, you can always sell off the recto and pick another 6505 up. (probably make a few bucks in the process.) At least this is how I justify my copious amount of amp buying and selling :D .

For the pure sense of a good deal, do it. The racktifier is worth significantly more than a 6505+.

One the other hand, you already have a Roadster...I don't see the racktifier getting you any tones the Roadster can't get you. In that sense, if the 6505+ gets you tones the Roadster can't, then it seems like the trade doesn't do you much.

Really up to you!

I think the Racktifier will get tones similar to the Roadster, but I'd take it any day over a Roadster because it'll sound better. Definitely lose the 6505 for the Mesa. If you hate the Mesa, sell it and buy another Peavey, and you'll have made a few hundred in the process.

I really wouldn't say that...I owned an early 2 channel rectifier, and traded it for a Roadster...I think the Roadster sounds quite a bit better than a standard rectifier, be it new or old.

To each his own...that's the beauty of tone.

One way or the other, I see a big overlap with owning two rectifiers.

Man, I'm so torn!
Get the Racktifier... at the very leats you'll make money off of this trade in the long run. The Racktifier is also good trade bait for another amp. On Harmony central you always see posts for WTB/WTF Racktifier.

If his Racktifier is in good condition/working order, do the trade you'll come out on top money wise. You can always sell the Rackto and get another 6505+ down the road easily if you want to switch back...

in my old band, i played through a 2-channel dual rec and the other guitarist played through a 6505+. completely different sounds, but they both sound great, especially together. individually, i liked the dual rec better in terms of tone, but the 6505+ seemed to overpower me just a bit at the same volumes.

honestly, you're on a mesa boogie forum, so most of the answers you get here will be biased toward the dual rec. but these guys are right, if you make the trade, you'll come out on top no matter what. if you like it, you have a nice new amp. if not, you could sell it and get another 6505+ and still have some cash left.

Also with the increase in value of the Racktifier if you decide you dont like it you could trade/sell it for a lot of different amps not just the 6505+. Just some food for thought.

Definitely do the trade!

It's been said a few times but no matter what you will win in this trade. If you love the Racktifier there you go. If you don't, you can sell it and make good money on it and buy another 6505+ cheap and have leftover money to spend on anything you want.

Unless you have some sentimental value to this specific amp.
