why do I have the volume set so low?!?! Cause it's loud enough! Damn soundmen are always telling me to turn it down! Allright, here's what I've had done with it, had the both transformers replaced with 100 watt transformers by Gerald Weber at Kendrick amps, had it modded to use 2 6550's, instead of 6L6's... and a footswitchable solo boost that I never use... That's it. The preamp section is completely stock, although I use NOS tubes in V-1 and V-3 old Mazdas or RFT's or Teslas from the 60's to early 70's, oh and a 12AT7 in the phase invertor position... And Yes the nos tubes make a big difference in tone.

I just realized your in Scotland, my Mothers maiden name is Bruce as in Robert the Bruce... my great Grandfather was moved over to Canada as an "Endentured Servant" in the late 1800's, after a few years he said "screw this" and ran away to the USA... I've still got family in Endinburough.

Yup i,m located in bonnie Dundee and at the moment we,re all snow logged lol.Good to hear you,ve got a bit of scots ancestry. What difference does a 100 watt transformer make in a 50 watter...curious? and also the reason i asked about the volume control is that we both know that really is the gain control on these older amps and yours is set quite low.

One thing I hated about my amp was it was never loud enough in a two guitar band. The other guitarist's MKIII always buried my .50Cal...I know the difference between a 100 watt amp and a 50 watt amp is what, 3 decibels? That's fine and dandy, but compared to my old 72 Traynor reverb master and VHT D-60, the stock .50Cal cannot hang, and NO ONE will ever convince me that the .50Cal is a true 50 watt amp, there's no way in hell it's putting out 50 watts, maybe 30-35 tops. I loved the tone of the amp so much that I took it to Kendrick amps and had Gerald install the 100 watt trannys and now it's plenty loud and can keep up with any MKIII and drummer out there. And since I've had it modded, I've owned 4 MKIII's, I currently own a red stripe long head with all options.

Sorry, I goofed on the controls.

The problem with my.50 cal is that the clean channel easily kicks out the same volume or there abouts as one of my mark series super sixtys, but the lead channel is quite a bit quieter. One day if i can find some body in the uk i,d like 2 get the lead master mod done so that the channels are balanced out.Thanxs for clearing up your settings mines are similar i run the treble bout 9ish and the bass and middle about 2/3 ish i set the presence to about 8 or 9 , the volume like yours is maxed lol.
