What's a good price for a good condition, relatively late model 50/50?

I should have prefaced that I have next to no knowledge about these as I'm just venturing into rack hear from plain amp heads. I'm learning all I can, but having just started don't know much as of yet. I assume these are still made by Mesa? What do they list/retail for?

Mesa has two 50 watt models...

The "old" 50/50

And the "new" 2:50
http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/Stereo_Power/stereo2-50/stereo2-50.html

The new 2:50 is an updated (voicing and looks) 50/50.

I have the old 50/50. To me, it's more transparent in sound than its newer counterpart. The new one seemed to be a little scooped sounding. A new 2:50 goes for... $1100(?). I see them for $600-$800 used.

Good info and thanks so much! So, a used 50/50 should be between 4-6 hundred or so?

I've gone back and forth between heads and racks a few times. A few years ago I sold my whole rack to buy a Mesa Roadster, then went through a bunch of other things...then back to the rack where I am now.

What I love about using rack amps is that so many used rack items are cheap as hell on the used market. My Intellifex was like $115 off ebay. Most power amps are around $500, including the 50/50, which I used to own. Preamps sell anywhere between $150-$500, unless its a Triaxis.

Another thing I love about my rack is that it is completely self-contained. Every cable inside just stays hooked up when you pack it up for transport. When you're setting up on stage, all you need to do is plug your guitar into the front and plug the power amp into the speaker cabinet. When I used to have a floor full of pedals, sometimes I'd lose a connection somewhere and spend five minutes trying to find which cable I tripped over. Now I have NOTHING on the floor except a midi controller for gigs.

I hope you are successful with your quest for a good rack rig. The 50/50 is a good power amp. You should be pleased.

Thanks. Yep, I'm intrigued by that aspect of a rack setup as well. Plus the flexibility in preamp options it affords. More/most importantly, I'm EXTREMELY hopeful that I can achieve the one thing that's been rather elusive (for me at least):

When I crank to band level volumes, all the sweet, saturated, warm preamp distortion doesn't go away, replaced and overshadowed by a cold, harsh, and trebly/spiky power section (or poor mix of the two).

This is the problem I've been fighting for a long time now. I know about eq-ing differently for loud volumes and have over 12 years of experience doing just that but it's been a battle. As I understand it, rack setups don't suffer this problem as much? Gosh I hope not. It'd be so nice to dial in a sound at loud volumes and not have to fight for it so much or compensate with too much added gain, etc... (I should note I play rather high-gain metal-ish material but still use clean and crunch tones too)
