Hey Everyone,

Brand new Mesa owner here!

Picked up my 5:25 1x12 on Saturday and love it.

I have a question on the effects loop. The book says pedals should go out front and the loop is optimized for rack type effects. I assume this would mean line level effects, right? Do any of you use pedals in the loop? I would like to use my tremolo and phaser along with my Eventide Timefactor in the loop but don't want to degrade my signal.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

I use a Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere in the loop of my 5:50 and it sounds great, way better than in front of the amp.
Quieter, too.

Try your pedals in the loop and see how you like them.

Delay and Chorus in the loop, they sounded awful through the front end end.

Thanks for all the replies,

I did read that the Master control creates the send level of the effects loop. I'm mainly a living room quiet player so that may be why my level and modulation effects don't sound as good in the loop as they should. The delay sounds fine though.

Thanks Again!

here's my effects loop, in order

Tuning pedal
Dunlop Crybaby Wah
MXR dyna comp
Boss Blues Driver
MXR Distortion II
MXR 6 band Eq
Boss Chorus
Boss Flanger
Dunlop Volume Pedal
MXR Smart Gate Noise pedal
MXR Carbon Copy Delay (awesome delay)

I don't have any problems. Mesa's concern is that the effects loop is after the preamp stage and that when using the Mesa's higher gain channels, especially when the gain and master will overload the pedals. I'd guess that's a possiblity, but probably not a likelihood. I don't use my effects loop on the high gain channels, or run my clean channel with the gain cranked up.

I listened for noise and/or increased distortion, with my set up. A bit more hiss, but that is taken out by my noise pedal, when engaged. I heard no tonal differences between the my effects board plugged in and nothing plugged in. What's most important is the order in which the pedals are placed in the loop. Some might debate my order. For the most part they go right along with the accepted order for pedals.
