Should i be worried? The tube did have a black mark on the outside and the amp seems to sound better now w/o it. It was the tube in the V4 possition. How can i get mesa to validate there warrenty w/ tubes?
Thanks! Russ

I wouldn't sweat it. Seems to be the norm from what I've been reading here. Also, the V5 in my LSS took a dump the 2nd time I plugged into it but I didn't have to deal with Mesa. My dealer is pretty close and he gave me a couple of the stock Mesa stamped 12ax7's when I told him about it.

You ought to check ou some more threads around here. I'm not familiar with your amp but I'm sure you can find some info/opinions if you look.

I replied in your other thread in the Modern amps section but as I said there, don't sweat it unless it happens again.. tubes can just die for no rhyme or reason.. just the name of the game.

Did you order your amp direct or did you get it from a retailer? If you got it at a retailer you should be able to just go back and get a tube being that it is something that is not supposed to happen but on occasion does. If you are lucky you might be able to get one of the guys at GC to slip up and get an upgrade. I wouldn't put a lot of faith in Mesa preamp tubes though. I have had some relatively unsatisfactory results buying their premium graded tubes. There was a post about it if you look for it.

when i said it sounds better with out it i ment to say that the JJ sounds better than the stock tube ever did. It seems that the distortion between ch 2 and ch 3 are much more difined.

When i look at the stock tube it has a black mark on the outside and some black marks by the base of the pins.

How can i get the free tube from mesa? Do i call and tell them im mailing it or do i just mail it?

Thanks for all your help!
Russ

Both my Mark IV's came with a spare 12ax7. Aside from that I wouldn't worry about the amp, but bad tubes from Mesa is commonplace, every new Mesa/Boogie I've bought has had screwed up tubes. I really like their amps but IMO their tubes suck. Most of the tubes in my Boogies have been switched out for other, more dependable brands.
