Has anyone taken 2 tubes out of their 100 Watt Recto make it 50 Watts?

1. Which tubes?

2. Is it harmful to the Amp?

Yes, I have. The manual says to take out the two inside tubes and one recto tube (any). I wont hurt the amp. Don't expect your volume to drop in half, and the tone changes just a bit.

You guys need to read more. It also changes the ohm's, That can do damage to the amp .... you can do it. But do it right !!!!!
You do not want to screw up your output transformer

I've done it, and didn't notice much difference in power or overall tone really. It seems to have more balls running with all of the tubes. FYI, Mesa recommends doing a 'safe mismatch' when running in 50w mode, meaning you'd run the 4 Ohm output into an 8 Ohm cab, 8 Ohm output into a 16 Ohm cab, etc.

Do as mechanic suggests. I run my DR in 50 watt and I like it that way. A little earlier breakup of the powertubes. Still very loud. You will find some people like this configuration and others don't. You will just have to try for yourself. You do save money by only have to replace 2 tubes instead of 4.

Good luck
