2 or 4 tubes?

I know this is probably stupid, but bear with me.

I have a Stiletto Deuce. When I had the Ace, I bought a matched pair of Ruby's from Dougs tubes. If I leave the Deuce in 50 watt mode, can I pop the Ruby's in the appropriate spots, or is it critical to get a quad? If I absolutely must use a quad (even in 50 watt mode), then I have a brand new matched pair of Ruby's if anyone wants to buy them :wink:

You don't have to use a matched quad, as long as you have two matched pairs located as : X Y Y X
However !!!! The pairs of tubes MUST be within Mesa/Boogie specs !

i spoke with Mike at Boogie last week about this exact same issue. line up the matched pairs as described above and you sould be good to go ...

I called Mesa about 3 months ago with the same question... Wanted to put my 2 STR 450's in and they said put them in the 50 watt (Outer sockets). You can put them in the inner but what's the point.
