Hi,

This sort of follows the recent thread about stereo PA's and cabs,
however...

I am now in search of the "best" arrangement for "speakerizing" my
2:Fifty. I plan to build my own cabs, basically an array of four
1X12s, two closed and two open back. The key issues being portability,
stereo spread and tone diversity.

My main concern is best matching the power output of each side of the
2:Fifty with appropriately powered speakers.
I understand that it is best to have the speakers rated at a lower wattage
than the amps output, so as to produce best efficiency/speaker drive
without toasting the amp.

Working from the specs, I narrowed down my selection to a pair of
Celestion G12M's (greenbacks) at 25W/8 ohm each,
and a pair of G12H's at 30W/8 ohms.

This should provide the right impedance when working with just one
pair of cabs. When all four are set up, each side's two cabs (L & R)
will hook in parallel, so each channel on the amp would "see" 4 ohms.

Any input and criticism on this sort of setup and speaker/cab type matching would be most welcome!

ThanX -

Gili-Rose

Sounds like you have thought a lot through already.

What kind of music are you playing?

Maybe you could mix them. The Greenbacks in the open back, the H30s in the closed back.

But for many styles I think you would like the H30s more.

Yes, did a lot of thinking.
The main problem is that where I live (Israel) there
is no Celestion (nor Mesa Boogie) distributer, so all
I have to go on is from the net and eBay.
The idea is indeed to have a "mix" of cabinets,
though I never heard of the H30.
My playing style is somewhat Gilmorish, thogh it
has faint imprints of Clapton, Knopfler, U2 & Police.
I sort of sparce out the notes, so you realy get to hear each one,
rather than an avalanch ...
ThankS -
Gil

Not true, if your speakers are rated to handle less power then the amp is producing you will fry the speakers. As for efficiency that is determined by the type of speaker/cab combination, not by the power fed to it. The only way your going to toast the amp is by driving it to hard for to long.

Hi t0aj15,
I guess the advice I was given was for studio monitoing,
so thanks for your input.
OK, so WHAT wattage should I be looking for?

Oh, by the way, anyone ever heared of the Laney MOD series?
