wattage as you may know isn't a measure of volume, but of power, think of it as horsepower, the 2:100 might sound be bigger,thicker and maybe a little louder. remember it's 20 watts louder, that can mean like 3 dB louder or something like that. If you want to get DOUBLE the volume you have to multply the wattage by 10. Hopefully that answers your question!
 
I think you are wrong, 20 more watts will not get you 3 db more of volume. You'd have to double the wattage to get that.
 
In fact 20 watts more is very little extra volume. The difference is mainly the configuration of the output section, in other words, the way the tubes are designed to work and thus sound.
Twice the volume is 6db. But to achieve twice the volume you need ten times the power, as another poster noted before. Doubling the power only gives you 3db.
You can think of it like the 2:90 being two Mark IV power amps in a rack and the 2:100 two Recto power amps in a rack.
Take your pick.
