    Mesa blues amp recommendation

+1 with Wicked1, the Electro Dyne is available new in the box and has excellent tones for all of your list. Check the Jay Leno show and listen to Kevin Eubanks play his. As a side note, I've not seen a whole lot of these for sale second hand. There must be some satisfied customers out there with...

Is there anything missing from your Blue Angel?

    Interesting stuff. Thanks Andy.

Is there anything missing from your Blue Angel?

It was mostly curiosity, I won't be changing anything major in this amp. 'Clean' isn't what I would really use to describe it. It's more of a 'warm' tone, sorta like a tweedish-blackface, more Bassman than Twin, if you know what I mean. I like the way it holds together more than breaking up...

Is there anything missing from your Blue Angel?

yeah, just thought I'd give it a shot in case you had a short cut ... Actually I'm very happy with the amp as it is. It does have some hiss and fan noise, but nothing unusual or disturbing. In fact the hiss is much less than any tweed I've ever played. One thing I am curious about is...

    Recording with a Blue Angel????

I'm interested in what you find out if you bypass the mojo module and the loop. I never use the loop except for some occasional experimentation.

Is there anything missing from your Blue Angel?

I would like a halo to appear above my head and to grow a pair of wings on my back. I'd be willing to give up the effects loop for these mods.

    Recording with a Blue Angel????

I notice a reduction in the volume of the class A hiss when I use a 12AX7 with balanced triodes in the #2 position. I also like a ballanced 5751 in #1. I haven't recorded with this amp yet, so that might not be of much help to you. My amp left the factory in 2001, that makes it one of the newer...

My Faith in Mesa Boogie is quickly dissolving,.advice please

Maybe you should have checked out a Stiletto. 8) Anyway, good luck to you and that new amp.

    Opinions please!

I'd try out one in a 4x10 combo. And don't disregard the Blue Angel. They're right in your budget range and if you like an edgy class A growl then you might take a shine to it. That also comes in 4x10 configuration. I'm thinking the ten-inchers will add depth to your 2x12's. Both of these amps...

    WTB Dual Rectifier

I say let's take this discussion else where and let the guy buy his amp!

    Blue Angel 2x10 combo??????

I think 10's really open up the sound of those EL84's on this amp as much as a 12" perfects the tone of the pair of 6V6's. A 4x10 cab, on the side, adds that 'third' dimension for me. Mixing different speakers can also be a very good thing. The right combination will add teeth to this...

What should I do with my Nomad 45?

Threehundredandseventyskins for this amp is a steal For that you get 45 Dynawatts of boogie magic out of four EL84's into three channels. Just my humble opinion, but $300 sounds like it could have been armed robbery, or at least it should have been. It's a good deal at twice that for one in real...

Do you need a tube amp if you don't play loudly???

I'm with you on that! Get something the right size for those living room jams with your friend and that should fit nicely into your bedroom practice routine. I just saw a Nomad 45 for sale here on the board for $600 that was described as near mint. Something like that would set you up for just...

Do you need a tube amp if you don't play loudly???

Cruising along at 3500 rpm on a motor that redlines at 5K is a LOT more comfortable than cruising on one that peaks out at 9. That ENGL clip you shared sounds like one of the later. He's playing very loud in that example. The amp is set up with high gain preamp tubes pushing what sounds to me to...

Do you need a tube amp if you don't play loudly???

The HT-5, although interesting, doesn't hold my confidence that a 12AX7/7025/ECC83 will give up enough 'chug' to make it worth the while. 6L6's are the ticket for that. Besides, the last time I looked the volume and gain knobs go from 0 to 10. There's enough real estate there to find that...

    Speaker Suggestions

What do you use your 2x12 with? I might try one of those Vintage 30's for a while since you have those. It says the R44 came with a V30 from the factory, so that's probably a good match. The EV can handle a lot of wattage and may not 'warm' up as nicely (according to tastes) when it's pushed by...

Gibson Zoot Suit - Cool Guitar or $1999 piece of plywood?

    Has anyone played one?

    perfect guitars

+1 gplex. The pure distinct tone of a Les Paul can not be beat. ... and yet a 335 does have a kind of sweet~mellow that holds it's own against anything out there. Then there are P90's ... iconic on an SG.

    Les Paul Replica

... read-heard-saw somewhere a few months ago? - the Chinese guitar connection got shut down with a law suit? Personally I'd rather try that new laminated SG instead.
