Good pedal to put in front of a Mesa to overdrive it?

I've got a Studio Caliber DC-2. Currently my only OD pedal is a Fulltone GT-500. Using that on top of my gain channel doesn't do much to give it an overdriven sound. (in fact, it actually clips it a little). Does anyone have a suggestion for a good overdrive pedal to put in front of a Mesa?

Amp kit that doesn't come with tubes

I am looking into embarking on a journey to build my own amp head. I have 7 Mesa Boogie 12AX7 preamp tubes. Every kit I've seen online comes with tubes. Is there a kit that is electronics only? (naturally I would get the power tubes separately, unless a kit came with just power tubes). Also...

Using the speaker of a DC-2 combo without using the amp

I'm looking to test out a head (Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 18). I have a spare speaker that I intend to build my own cabinet with. But in the meantime, can I use the 8 ohm jack on the back of my Studio Caliber DC-2? I assume I would be able to do that, without powering the Mesa amp...

Troubleshooting for a Studio Caliber DC-2

After I received my DC-2 from the seller at Reverb, I noticed it need some fixing upping (they refunded me some of the cost). The ground prong on the wall plug was damaged and the effects loop didn't work. I took it into a friend to do some TLC. He fixed the plug and put two new power tubes...

    Dual Rectifier characterizations

I've recently taken my first step, into a larger world. I've gotten a taste of Mesa Boogie with my (new to me) Studio Caliber DC-2. And so, I am hungry for my next bite of tone. I'd like to get a Dual Rectifier. However it seems there are a lot of options when it comes to that flavor...

    New to the Boogie

I was on the verge of buying a friend's Dual Caliber DC-5. But I only play at home in my mancave. 50 W might be too much for the household and neighbors. Instead settled for a Studio Caliber DC-2 Combo. Got a good deal on Reverb. Having her cleaned out now by a friend electrician. So...

My Studio Caliber DC-2 is different than the manual

Hey gang, I took ownership of a Studio Caliber DC-2 combo amp last week, and I'm still getting to know her. There are differences than what I see in the manual from the Out of Production site at Mesa: The Lead/Rhythm toggle instead is a Lead/Rhythm/Contour toggle. Leaving the three-way...
