    The Mark IV thread....!!

There's a bit of misinformation in this thread, it's actually the B revision that is brighter. Just ask Mike B, I think he would confirm this.

NAD: 1987 Mesa Boogie Mark III (Red Stripe)

Congrats, I had a red stripe simulclass III about 10 years ago. It was a great gigging amp and I used it quite a bit. Had issues with caps a lot though, had to send it to Mesa 2 times. When you got the chance maybe check inside and see if you still have the stock filter caps inside, and if they...

    Mark IV problem

I have a mid 90's Mark IV rev B that I've had since around 2014, I had it serviced by Mesa in dec 2021, but I have a problem with channel 1. The problem is I get very little break-up out of the channel. I literally gotta push it with EMG's and bring the master up to at least 4 to get any kinda...

mark IV rackmount head with dual FX loops

You have a Mark IV rev A, but the manual is for a rev B, which are the same amp but different revision, very similar. The main difference is the loop, the B has a stereo loop so it has 3 jacks. Other than that there are some minor circuit changes but they both function the same and dial in in a...

Should I convert my HR IIc+ to DR?

    I wouldn't do it.

Mark III green vs blue vs red stripe

Green stripes are the best version of the Mark III because of the pentode outer pair of power tubes, so they've got extra punch and are kinda similar to the early Mark IVa. Mark IV's are my all time fav Mark amps. I had a Mark III red stripe and I think my current MK IV is a much better...

Mark IV mod to get closer to III?

Now why would you wanna do that? When I sold my red stripe III and bought a IVb i never looked back. The biggest difference was recording. The IV records really well and sounds very professional, the III on the other hand was a pain to record and always sounded cardboardy and harsh. It just...

    What's your fave speaker?

I use V30's with my Mark series amps, but I use R2 and the Lead Channel the most. The clean channel gets little use.

Problem switching channels on Mark IV

This was the exact problem I had. All is well now. I feel so dumb for not figuring that out right away.

Problem switching channels on Mark IV

Yes I did. I even opened it up to see if I could see anything wrong but i'm not very good with electronics. I was thinking about maybe spraying some contact cleaner on that wheel thing that the channel switching dial is connected to??

Problem switching channels on Mark IV

I just got my Mark IV out of the pawn shop, It was in there for at least 6 months. So now my amp is stuck on channel one, it bumps up in volume when i switch to rythym 2 but that is it...it does nothing when switching to channel 3 and does nothing with the footswitch. I'm stumped???

    The Mark IV thread....!!

Anyone notice a little bit of noise and hum when in Triode mode on their IV?? Mine has just a bit of hum in Triode (not much), but Pentode is dead silent by comparison. Not sure what setting I prefer? but I think I prefer Pentode just because of the headroom?? I like to get the full 85 watts...

Is my Mark IV a A or B revision??

OK, thank you. My Mark is a IVB then. 8) It's a cool amp, and i'm really liking it. There are certain things it does better than my previous old Mark III... which is a good thing. Different for sure, but also similar in many other ways. The lead voicing on it is a bit more modern sounding than...

Is my Mark IV a A or B revision??

How do I tell?? I just got it off ebay and the amp sounds excellent, I love it. I doubt it really matters much, but I'm just curious about it's age and want to know if it's a IVa or IVb?? what are the defining characteristics? The serial #: IV-007978

    To tighten

Keep the bass control low, like from 0 - 2 (no higher than 3). Then bring the bass back in to you tone with a EQ pedal or rack EQ in the loop. I find the MXR graphic 10 band EQ does the job, as they are very transparent. The EQ in the loop will act in the same way as the graphic EQ that comes...

    Mark IV Modifications

I'd be interested in a bias mod, maybe??... and I wonder why no one seems to do this with Mesa amps?? It's done with Peavey's all the time, especially the 5150, but I've never heard of a bias modded Mark IV, or even a bias modded Rectifier??
