WTB Mark III Head w/ EQ

I have a 60-watt red stripe with EQ in a rackmount with fan. I've owned it since January but I can't justify keeping it and my Mark II plus a Subway Blues. Looking for $500. I know it's not exactly what you're looking for but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Boogie's new amp room in NYC

Went there today to have a look see. They indeed have a Mesa room which had two Lonestar classics in amazing hardwood w/matching extension cabs ($$$$), a LSS in tolex, stiletto combo, several stacks with single, and dual rectos, road king, etc., road king combo, express 5/25 and 5/50 and the...

    IIC in NJ (not mine)

Since you called the CLer and ascertained it is in fact the same amp, that's great. Was the CLer the same person as the ebayer? Having lived in Brooklyn for the last 25 years, my reason for asking was that it doesn't make sense for a Brooklyn seller to list the item on CL as being in NJ. People...

    IIC in NJ (not mine)

Are you sure it's the same amp? CL post was in NJ, the one on ebay is in Brooklyn (btw, I bought my IIA from him, which he kindly delivered the next day).

    Jazz Guitar Boogie Model Recommendation

Since you're using an L-5, I would guess you're going for an at least somewhat "traditional" jazz sound. Who would you compare your sound to? Wes, Kenny Burrell, Jim Hall, George Benson? I have a MkIIA and a MkIII red stripe. The II has a more prominent midrange to my ears and I prefer it for...

My Mark IV won't sustain on a specific note

In this case, your note decay has nothing to do with the amp or guitar. It's a fact of acoustics. Certain resonant frequencies will be more pronounced in certain rooms, other frequencies in other rooms. If it were an amp problem, it would likely affect other pitches as well. Moving in relation...

    Compressors

+1 on the Barber. Bought it in January and now I don't leave home without it. Stated above in brief but worth emphasizing, the Barber does the classic compressor sound with the blend pot anywhere from about 1 o'clock to 5 o'clock (max). Chicken pickin' for days... With the blend pot at noon...

What happens then? A 12ax7 did that and I figured it can't be good so I chucked it. Just curious.

    Blues Tone from MkIII

The lead master being limited by Master 1 can be a pain, but as long as the lead drive is set appropriately, it's fine. Tonally, setting the treble and mid so they are usable for both channels took some time to figure out. I usually set it higher than optimal for rhythm and back off the volume...

    Blues Tone from MkIII

I've considered an OCD. A friend of mine runs one through his old vibroverb and it sounds great. Another day, another pedal. After rehearsing the project this afternoon, I'm going with the IIA for the upcoming gig, and will probably pick up the OCD in the near future. I can get a decent metal...

    Blues Tone from MkIII

That thought did occur to me. Not that I don't love buying pedals, but I might have to take the MKII and use the Ubermetal pedal that I already own for now.

    Blues Tone from MkIII

Stock 335 from late 70's, with coil taps. Not thrilled with the bucks or split.

    Blues Tone from MkIII

I have a gig coming up in which the band covers a ridiculous range of musical styles (rock, jazz, reggae, classical, metal, blues, etc.) I'm using my MkIII (red stripe, 60w, EQ) because I can get a scooped metal tone and have gotten every sound dialed in except a good blues tone. I'm comparing...

    +10 on the great mids!

Tell me about this Mark II please (pictures)

I feel the same way regarding the change in overall direction away from the Fender sound of the II. My III red stripe has a different midrange character that sounds a little thinner to me; it works if you're playing a clean rhythm part, but for me it lacks the body to play single-note melodies...

Tell me about this Mark II please (pictures)

It definitely does the Santana thing and related sounds. Not going to give you mega-metal chug. Also there is a bit of grit to the distortion unlike the super smooth sound of a Mk III red stripe (but the III can't match the II's clean sound).
